Pastel drawing of trees in early autumn by a large body of water, signed at lower right M. Moore, measuring 13 1/2" by 19" (21" by 26" framed). The viewer is reminded of Canadian art--landscapes of Ontario in the fall, for example--though this might just be a generic scene from the imagination of the artist. A colorful original work with considerable decorative quality. The drawing is slipping around a bit under the mat so will have to be re-affixed to backing.

This splendid oil on board renders a charming cape cod house overlooking the ocean. There is a road passing to its front. It is all too serene and peaceful. Given the calmness of the waves, speculate that the ocean is the Pacific. It is signed E Harkins in the lower left. Its simplicity and unpretentiousness reminds me of Edward Hopper's or Andrew Wyeth's work...

Oil on masonite painting, (24 1/2" by 31" as framed) of a clipper with bare masts, at anchor near a beach at dawn or sunset, signed at lower right by artist Sean O'Farrell. I do not see any listings for this artist, who obviously had a solid command of painting. The work was likely created circa 1960's. There is a small loss at upper left, otherwise it is in excellent condition. The frame is likely older, dating perhaps to the 1940's or 1950's, and it is itself interesting and of value.

A French painting on Masonite of orchids, in a detailed, "fool the eye" ("trompe l'oeil" as it's known in French) style, 9" by 7" (18 1/2" by 16" in circa 1950's quality closed-corner gold framing), signed rather illegibly at lower right in the wet paint. For some time I have attempted to decipher this signature but have come up short. Obviously the painter is skilled; note the detailed and realistic water droplets on the flowers...

An impressive very modern, complex watercolor and gouache painting on paper, 14 3/4" by 20" inside the mat, 26 1/4" by 30 3/4" in gold framing, signed at lower right by the noted artist JACOB LANDAU (1917-2001). The top portion of the piece contains words or word fragments, such as "WHAT NEXT" and "BIG"; lower portion seems to be a grouping of human faces and figures, some distorted, one appearing to beat a drum; perhaps this is a demonstration for a cause. The artist was born in Philadelphia a...
