An unframed antique, 19th century watercolor of two Indians paddling a canoe in a raging small river between steep cliffs, signed at lower right with what appears as "Catherine Stuart 1879". The 7 5/8" by 10 3/4" work strongly reminiscent of paintings and watercolors by noted Canadian artists Cornelius Krieghoff (1815-1872), Alfred Worsley Holdstock (1820-1901), Frederick Arthur Verner (1836-1928). Strangely, an online search has not turned up information on the present artist...

A watercolor painting of a fountain on an elegant seaside or lakeside property, 8 1/2" by 6" (12 1/4" by 9 3/4" framed), signed at lower right by listed Swiss artist JOSEPHINE VERNAY (1861-?). Vernay's birth/death dates are suspect, or possibly confused with those of her brother, artist Francois Joseph Vernay; one source lists hers as 1864-1950, the same as her brother's. An old oil on gray board painting of a stone bridge over the Seine River in central Paris, in high autumn. The work measures 9" by 12" (11 3/4" by 14 3/4" in attractive maybe 1930's frame). The signature at lower left appears to be "E Turner", the "E" placed on top of the "T". If I am reading this correctly, there does not appear to be a listed artist that would correspond. In any event, the work is excellent, and by a trained hand.
