A page from Harper’s Weekly during the American Civil War, dated May 11,1861.. the framed piece measuring 15” x 10”

One of a number of Whistler lithographs I am offering: "Firelight: Joseph Pennell No. 1", 1896, sheet approximately measuring 11 3/4" by 8 1/4", currently in a mat, lightly taped at top edge to backing, not laid down, unframed. Generally clean, with some imperfections along edges (particularly a half-moon shaped area missing from right side, about 1 1/2" by 3/8" wide on average, see images). Stamped on reverse is "Library of London/De-Accessioned"...

This is a work by highly regarded American artist THOMAS WILLOUGHBY NASON (1889-1971). Nason was a Boston-born artist who by the late 1920's had taught himself the fine art of creating prints in the wood engraving process. This process was popular for illustrating books in the 19th century but by the twentieth it had fallen from favor. He revived the medium and truly excelled at it. By the early 1930's he had been exhibited at Boston's prestigious landmark Goodspeeds book store...

Hand Colored Etching “Dickens Christmas Carol” 5x8” framed size 12x16” done circa 1940

Unusually large detailed engraving, 31 1/4" by 20 1/8", laid down on board, of Christ coming down off the Cross, this example engraved by Nicolaus Dorigny (1657-1776), and possibly after Daniel Ricciarelli (1509-1566), in turn after a painting by Raphael. The work is dated 1720 at lower left. There's a lot of text in Latin at bottom, and a close look reveals the names of the two above artists...

He is best known for small edition etchings, usually up to 30 copies, limitless experimentation with printing techniques and surrealist, often graphic imagery resembling distorted reality ¬neither quite explicit nor quite horror, but rendering a fairly dark version of dreams. Hand colored lithograph titled, “THE BATTERY, NEW YORK/BY MOONLIGHT.” N. Currier lower left, address lower right. Promenade under the leafy trees with the full moon lighting the harbor with sailing vessels. Kennedy Galleries label taken from the earlier back board, now on the new backing. Sight size 9 x 12 ½ inches, over all with frame, 16 1/8 x 19 1/8 inches.

Condition: Minor tears in the margins and some slight discoloration, but otherwise good condition.

Color etching titled "La Mare" ("the pond"), featuring a whitewashed two story country house or inn by a dirt road next to a pond, signed in pencil below the image "de Croisset". There is a printed label on the backing stating that this is a limited edition. A search by this name does not reveal a listed artist; I suggest that this might be a pen name/pseudonym. The date is probably circa 1930's to about 1950 at the latest...

This is an attractive and elegant poster, issued in 1954 for an exhibition of the works of the ultra famous and important Swiss sculptor, painter and printmaker, ALBERTO GIACOMETTI (1901-1966). Measuring 29" by 20 1/2", it is simply framed in modern metal with glass and no mat. The edition size of this particular poster, titled "Rue d'Alesia", is unknown.
