Acquired from the recent liquidation of the extensive estate of actor Charlton Heston and his wife Lydia, this is an original photograph, unsigned/unattributed, measuring 13 1/2" by 17 3/4", unframed, in a clean white mat. There are a number of contemporary notations in pencil on the mat, including "STILL LIFE MID 1920", and a $300 asking price. The photo seems to be perhaps earlier, so "circa 1900" might be reasonable...

As Haku Maki aficionados know, Maki did many prints depicting the kanji for ox or bull. This one, Z-200b, is one of his great bulls. One of a small edition of 75, it is 12.5 in wide X 19in high. The print, created in 1999, is in excellent condition. For another wonderful example of Maki's ox-making, see Item#1452034 below--a brilliant Big Red ox.

This is a true lithograph, numbered 170/200 at lower left margin, pencil signed by the artist at lower right, the title of the work given on reverse label as "My Beloved is Like a Roe". The lithograph is by the important Jewish artist THEO(DORE) TOBIASSE (1927-2012). Tobiasse has often been compared to Chagall and Picasso, with his figure-based, personal, dreamy interpretations of themes like the exploration of one's heritage, exile, and Biblical and erotic fantasy...

This example, published in 1957 in an edition of 700, is signed in pencil at lower right and bears the characteristic embossed blindstamp in lower left margin. The title is "Rosa and Marissa". The title of this image, which was issued in the year 1942 in an edition of 500 examples, is "Mirror at the Ballet"...

A large engraving of a mythological scene of Venus after her bath getting ready for a date with Adonis. The print was made by Etienne Baudet the French engraver who also worked in Rome. It is dated 1672. The print is after one of a series of 4 paintings by Francesco Albani that were commissioned by the Duke of Mantua in 1621. The painting that is the source of this print is now in the Louvre. Sight size 23 ¼ by 27 inches (59 by 68 cm), overall 28 ¼ by 32 ¼ inches (72 by 82 cm)...

One of a number of fresh and clean examples of William Russell Flint prints in my shop, this is a fine photolithograph, published in 1956 in a limited edition of 700 examples, titled "Le Quatorze Juillet". Flint was in the southern French town of Mauvezin on Bastille Day 1954, and it is thought possible that the sketch he made from his hotel room of the scene he saw in front of him ultimately became this image...

By the highly important German impressionist and expressionist artist LOVIS CORINTH (1858-1925) is this rare lithograph of 1921/1922, "Die Markgrafin von Bayreuth" (translating as "Countess of Bayreuth"). The sheet measures 8" by 5" inside the mat opening, and 9" by 6" in total. This print is signed in pencil by the artist at lower right. Corinth is considered one of the giants of German 20th century art...
