Struck was born in Berlin or Orthodox Jewish parentage. Early in his life he met the Zionist leader Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), a meeting which profoundly influenced the artist. Struck's most desirable subject matter, scenes of Israel from the late 1920's, have brought to the $25,000 area at auction...

Lithograph print of two little sisters, printed by Associated American Artists at mid century, signed in pencil at lower right by the popular, listed Sicilian-born artist JEAN CALOGERO (1922-2001). The print, 14" by 9 5/8" (19" by 15" framed), dates likely to the 1950's or 1960's. Calogero's colorful oils of children, and mysterious fantasy scenes including masks and Surrealist elements, are familiar to art lovers. This print has some paper browning but otherwise appears clean.

John Winkler, American, 1894-1979, "Standard Fisheries". This 1941 etching by John Winkler measures 13 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches and is pencil signed. Winkler was originally from Austria coming to America at the age 16. After various jobs he impulsively enrolled in the San Francisco Art Institute and soon discovered his talent as an etcher. He became good friends with John Taylor Arms as well as Arthur Heintzelman. His works are found in many major museums throughout the US and Europe.

A color poster "Fragments", 1985, hand signed in marker at bottom by the noted California sculptor of human figures, ROBERT GRAHAM (1938-2008). The piece measuring 38 1/2" by 20 1/2" is very clean and fresh. Graham was born in Mexico City where as a youngster he was exposed to the great mural art of Mexico. This is a medium folio size (lithograph 12 5/8" by 15 1/2" inside the mat, the sheet " by ", and as framed 20" by 22 1/2") by famous American printmakers Currier and Ives. Judging from internet offerings of the image by major print dealers around the nation, the print is a popular one, although it is not among the so-called "Best 50". Note the horses, the ducks and pigeons, the turnips, and the hogs at left. All in all, this is a peaceful scene of another America in another century...
