An impressively large color print of the year 1977, titled appropriately "Boat", pencil signed at lower right and dated there, and numbered 23/150 at lower left, by the noted, Japanese-born artist KENZO OKADA (1902-1982). The print, 27 1/2" by 34" inside the mat (36" by 42" in attractive and complementary quality silvery frame) is decidedly modern but the imagery has its root in Asian and specifically Japanese art. His name is usually remembered alongside that of his long-standing friend Richard Steele, with whom he founded The Spectator magazine. The unframed sheet measures 25 1/2" by 19 1/2". The image area is clean and problem-free, though I note significant browning and staining in the margins, the outline of a previous mat clearly visible. Evident past attempts to remove an over mat has resulted in skinning of the paper in the lower portion, and residue from the over mat remains at top. There is a line from the old mat all around, with the paper within that line lightly browned...
