The Frugal Repas by Pablo Picasso from the edition of 1913 on arches paper trimmed with .5 inch margins a fine impression of this most famous of prints. Plate size 18 1/4 x 14 7/8 in. (46.4 x 37.8 cm) . A fine addition to any collection framed and archival matted in a fine gallery presentation frame.

This Maki print has had a charmed existence. It was printed in Japan in the mid-70s, just as Maki was beginning to leave the production of prints with kanji as the main theme and start doing then with Ceramics, mainly in the Collection series. This is the second print of his long ceramics series – some of which were simply entitled as this is with the year 75-59. This was done in 1975 and was a quite large edition 201...

The kanji for Peach appears in the uppper right of the print. 17 of 24 Haku Maki was one of the grand masters of the Sosaku-hanga print movement. Maki Haku (1924-2000) is the artistic name of Maejima Tadaaki, who was born in Ibaraki Prefecture. Haku Maki was a Japanese print master of the late 20th century. His prints at the time this one was published were strong on the use of kanji and abstract designs, as shown here. In this case; the design is abstract, it shows archaic images which we are trying to understand. The print is large, well designed and carried off. The seller Ashley Brasca of Winnipeg Canada wrote to me about this print: “It is special because of the texture and physical quality achieved on the surface...

In 1971 Haku Maki produced this large print, Poem 71-25. It was an edition of 100. This new arrival was produced in Tokyo and went ultimately to Florida in the US. It stayed there for a long time. In the course of its life there it was not treated nicely: It was folded in two places. The print had foxing, it had many ailments. Then it finally made it to my restorer. It had challenges there too: some liquid spilled on it, forcing a delay in the restoration process...

A Very Rare/Fine Japanese Woodblock Print by Tadashi Nakayama (1927 -): Japan, dated 1961, with original frame. Ptinted with metallic embellishments, of red and silver squares with black top (?), signed in pencil T. Nakayama, edition numbered 16/50, on the bottom margin, with a professional/original frame. This is a very unusual print by this artist. It’s in very good condition with color and impression, without any noticeable defects but not examined its back...
