Clara Colline 1881-1945 Kansas Artist, American This is a fine block print by Kansas artist Clara Colline (1881-1945) The title written in pencil lower left is: Wind in the Cottonwoods. THis image done circa 1920 is hand signed in pencil and has an image size of: 9X11 3/4 inches. Colline was a student of Birger Sandzen. His influence is clearly seen here.

This color aquatint by Luigi Kasimir measures 17 3/4 x 15 inches, pencil signed, plated dated 1925, cat: Lorenz-5. Kasimir studied at the Vienna Academy of Art, although much of his etching technique was self taught and learned through working from nature. He specialized in atmospheric images of architecture, city scenes and landscapes; some bustling with people and automobiles, others quite timeless and serene.

This is a wood engraving print titled "Les Visages", by the important French artist GEORGES ROUAULT (1871-1958). The print measures 7" by 8 3/4" inside the mat (13 3/4" by 15 1/2" as framed). I believe that this is from the edition published at a later date (circa 1960's) by the Collectors' Guild of New York; the print is dated in the plate 1927, and signed in the plate at lower right. The condition is very good with even very light toning of the paper...

Etching on paper of the New York City elevated train line known popularly as "The L", as in "elevated line", and so titled ("The L - 23rd St. N.Y.") in a separate window in the mat, the primary image area 12 3/4" by 9 1/2", 21 1/2" by 17 1/4" as framed, signed at lower right in pencil, bearing the inscription "For Mr. Paul G. Sprunk from H. Van Notti--1923", and numbered "6" at lower left margin. The scene depicted is familiar urban scenery to any New Yorker or New York visitor...

A posthumously published (1993) etching "Men at Rigging", the plate apparently originally cut by famous and important California artist ARMIN HANSEN (1886-1957) circa 1924, even though the work is dated 1930 after the faint plate signature. According to the printed narrative on the backing, the plate was never printed in Hansen's lifetime...

Pennell was an important American etcher, lithographer and illustrator. Good friends with James McNeill Whistler, he and his wife co-authored his biography. Pennell was known for his continued experimentation with technique and style, producing cityscapes, landscapes and marine scenes...

This 1926 etching by the American artist, John Taylor Arms, measures 10 3/4 x 9 7/8 inches, pencil signed and dated, also called "The Cathedral of Notre Dame, From the Lower Town", edition of 100, from his French Church Series #8, cat: Fletcher 181, printed by Frederick Reynolds. This etching won the "John G. Agar Prize, Fifth Annual Exhibition by Living American Etchers, National Arts Club, New York, N.Y." in 1927.

The title Tal Grund (The Valley) from the series Vorfruhling im Gebirge (early spring in the Mountains). It was published by Euphorion Verlag, Berlin in 1922 in an edition of 125 impressions. This was part of a series of 5 lithographs. The image measures 12 3/4X17 inches. Printed on a medium weight wove type paper.

Struck was born in Berlin or Orthodox Jewish parentage. Early in his life he met the Zionist leader Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), a meeting which profoundly influenced the artist. Struck's most desirable subject matter, scenes of Israel from the late 1920's, have brought to the $25,000 area at auction...
