They are closely related to the Lunda and Ndembu to the northeast, but they also share cultural similarities to the Kaonde to the east, and to the Chokwe and Luchazi, important groups of eastern Angola...

Eye-catching patinated bronze swan statue on a black marble base.. This curvilinear design is reminiscent of the Art Deco period. The edges of the marble base are beveled and the corners are rounded; it all feels very smooth. Unsigned, there was green felt on the bottom that was removed, but enough remains that it will protect a wood surface from scratching. In excellent condition, it measures 16.12ʺ long × 4.12ʺ deep × 11.75ʺ high.

From our African Collection: This "Ikenga" Southeast Nigerian Shrine Figure is from the Early to mid 20th century. A characteristic of all Ikenga Shrine Figures are their exaggerated bull horns. The basic form of an ikenga is a human figure with horns symbolizing power, sometimes reduced to only a head with horns on a base.

Original marble sculpture by Theodor Mallener (Czech, 1892-1978). Mallener is a Czech sculptor born in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia. He apparently spent part of his life in Germany, where he died (Schwabmunchen, Bavaria) in 1972. He is listed mainly in Czech sources. There was also a sculptor named Mallener who worked in Vienna for the Goldscheider Factory in the early part of the century who may or may not be the same artist. This sculpture is signed Th.
