Abraham Rosenthal (Russian/American, 1886-1963) oil on artist board painting of Rockport Harbor. Size: 16 inches x 20 inches. Abraham Rosenthal was a Russian born, American painter who lived in New York and Rockport, Massachusetts. He studied at the Art Students League, Cooper's Union, and was a student of Emile A. Gruppe. He was a member of the Rockport Art Association. Condition is excellent; offered in a gilt wood frame. Signed lower right.

A pen and ink print signed W.V.V.T in the lower right corner. There is a small white spot in the right area (see photos) and dark spot above that... there is also rippling in the upper left corner-- the paper may have been pasted to a background but we have not examined it out of the frame. 12" x 16"

A good maritime oil on canvass painting of a fishing sloop in a turbulent sea. Signed "IR Lowd" at lower right. The stretcher is pencil signed "Fishermen in a Winter Sea/Winter Rig/Flat Roof". The canvas is an older, probably original giltwood frame. Found in Maine.

In his role as the husband and protector of the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph became one of the more popular retablo subjects, representing an estimated 7% of 19th century pieces. Original monotype by Matt Phillips (American, born in 1927 in New York City). Signed "Phillips" and dated '82 in pencil l.r. Also indistinctly titled or dedicated l.l. ("For Dede"?) 4 1/2" by 4 1/4" image alone. The full sheet measures roughly 12" by 12". In original never framed condition. Matt Phillips is a master printmaker who taught in Paris, and at Bard College in NYC. He is credited with reviving the monotype technique in the second half of the 20th century...

The photo on the left shows a double portrait by John Singer Sargent of Mr. John White Field and his wife. This painting was done in the early 1880's and is in the collection of Pennyslvania Academy of Fine Arts. The image on the right shows an earlier portrait of Mr. Field by Sargent. Notice Mr. Field is blind in his left eye, which is enlarged and his right eye is focused which is a good eye. It is my opinion that Mr. Field rejected the first portrait of himself done by Sargent...

The image on the right is an enlarged study of the vest worn by the Mother in the Van Dyck portrait. The Portrait of a Woman and Child was painted in 1620-21 by Van Dyck. The unusual design on the vest matches that of Rubens. The embroidery design symbol means family love. A watercolor miniature portrait done by Richard Morrell Staigg. The sitter is a nice-looking blue-eyed young man in a black coat and cravat, with a light blue vest. As is usual with Staigg, the painting is superbly limned. It is housed in one half of a leather case.

The condition is excellent, with no problems whatsoever. Sight size is 3 1/2" by 3".

A miniature portrait painting by Abraham Parsell, done in his recognizable style with somewhat frizzy hair, and the sitter posed with his arm on a chair. Housed in its original cast foliate frame with a rear aperture containing a lock of hair.

The painting is 2 5/16" by 1 7/8", while the overall locket size is 2 1/2" by 2 1/8". Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, bowing, paint loss or restoration.
