This silkscreen offering is said by some to depict Kabuki make-up. It is 8sq inches and in excellent condition. See picture 4, the title, where Maki seems to have written Kuma 92/--his numeral 1 was usually a straightforward vertical 1.

A color poster issued by the Amon Carter Museum of Art in Fort Worth, Texas, 31" by 35" in attractive black framing, titled at bottom "AMON CARTER MUSEUM JULIAN ONDERDONK/A Cloudy Day, Bluebonnets near San Antonio, Texas". This attractive image captures the wonderful blues that Onderdonk made famous with his paintings of the Texas countryside, some of which have exceeded $300,000 at auction. In 1960 Maki did the image shown. It is called Symbol. In all the years of collecting Maki prints and images I have never seen this one again. It is quite large but seems cluttered. Forty years later he did it as a print and a post card even as one friend has suggested he did the print before 1999, the date on the print. The seals are authentic not printed, and they are original Maki seals from well-used chops.

Alexandre Grégoire (August 29, 1922 – July 28, 2001) was a Haitian painter who typically depicted scenes of Vodou, daily life, and historical events in the naïve style. Born in Jacmel, Grégoire was educated from 1930 to 1937 by the Christian Teaching Brothers, and then studied cabinet making at the Jacmel vocational school for two years. In 1939 he joined the army and played the tuba and saxophone in the army band...

A miniature or small gouache hillside landscape painting (3" by 4 1/4"), 7 3/4" by 9 3/4" in silvery stand-up frame, signed at lower left "R. Becker". The artist is Russ or Russell Becker, according to a Christmas 1995 hand-written holiday note on the inside of the blue card to which this is affixed. I do not see an obvious artist by this name, but he was clearly talented. The scene appears western, given the reddish rocky outcrop. Condition is excellent.

For the connoisseur of pastoral, traditional 17th century Dutch landscape painting, this is actually a contemporary work on panel, by Southern California artist WILLIAM GALVEZ of Placentia. The technique, featuring fine detail and a smooth glazed surface, and the handling of the subject matter, including silhouetted tree, last light of day effects, humble abode, and tiny figures and animals, demonstrate the artist's familiarity with the Dutch Old Masters of previous centuries...

Haku Maki liked to do prints of turtles or tortoises. This one, Poem 70-6, has two turtles, the smaller drawn to resemble the hand-written kanji for turtle. The print is 197 of 202 and measures 12in x 12in.
