This is an appealing little sketch, oil on board of a landscape with a line of trees, a tawny field, a few structures and an extensive view beyond, unsigned, circa 1940's or 1950's. It is obviously by a talented artist who failed to sign his or her name. Perhaps it is a study for a more finished painting to come. Measuring 12" by 16", it should be easy to find a (common, "standard size") suitable frame. Condition is good save for a stubbed, worn corner at upper extreme right, as shown.

I do not see a listing for an artist of this name. The work likely dates to about the 1950's I would think, and is probably still in its original frame. This was once a beautiful late 1950's period example of Italian abstract art, executed by the listed artist, from Venice, Italy, GIOVANNI GIULIANI (1893-1965). A vintage impressionist oil on canvas painting of a sunny fenced meadow, signed with initials "FB" at lower right, 10" by 14" (14 1/4" by 18 1/4" framed). The work came from a German-American family which had brought much art from the old country, suggesting a European origin. The painting is pleasant and easy to live with. A cleaning to remove light surface dirt would be beneficial, as would a new gold frame, the present wood one not flattering to the work.
