The painting is apparently a plaster mix covered by resin, on panel, standing out in three dimensional relief, and then painted, the work measuring 15 1/2" by 19 1/2" (21 3/8" by 25" as framed). A fine and accomplished watercolor abstracted drawing in the Cubist style of the early 20th century, unsigned, the sheet 15" by 10", the drawing itself 6 1/2" by 4 1/4", (21" by 15 1/2" nicely framed). I did open this to inspect for a signature and found none, nor any other information as to artist. The work could have some age, or it could be of recent vintage; difficult to tell from looking at the pebbled paper. Watercolor on paper painting, 10 1/2" by 13 1/2" (18 1/4" by 21" framed), signed at lower right "J.C. MIDDLETON.", the subject a suburban boathouse in a neighborhood, possibly in southeast England. Middleton painted in oil and watercolor in Surrey, greater London, and Cornwall, as well as South Africa, apparently, as a number of works from Cape Town are known. The artist was skilled in watercolor, as this painting shows a sure hand.

The work bears signature "Montezin" at lower left but I have researched the piece and it is not by the noted French artist. It is offered solely on its decorative qualities. There are light folds in the paper at top but they are not really a concern.
