English watercolor paintings on both sides of the paper, circa 1880, one side a lovely classic scene of several cows on a dirt track by a cottage with branching tree, the other side sheep grazing around a tree, a church steeple in the distance. The paper measures 11" by 15" and 17 1/2" by 13 1/2" in a modern frame (I suggest discarding the non-glare cloudy style glass). There is no signature nor other indication of authorship...
Watercolor on paper, 13" by 21 1/2" inside the original gold over mat, 20 1/2" by 29" in its original goldish frame (no glass), apparently unsigned, the subject the dramatic waterfalls of the tropics----Iguassu Falls on the Brazil/Argentina border, perhaps, or Victoria Falls in central Africa. Unfortunately there is no title or location given, though these would be good guesses...

In the style of noted California artist Ellen Burpee Farr, this is a classic late nineteenth century watercolor of the distinctive leaves and "berries" of the pepper tree commonly seen in Southern California. Signed at upper left "A.C. Hough" (or "Haugh"---I don't see a listing for either name), this is a beautiful study that is possibly not finished (the leaves and berries at lower right---could be the artist's intention, or simply unfinished---you judge)...

This is a watercolor by a trained hand, 7 1/2" by 14 3/4", laid on a white board, (minimally framed, no glass), the subject a coastal landscape of rocks and headlands, signed at lower right with what appears to be the signature of noted Alaska and California artist THEODORE J. RICHARDSON (1855-1914). There are also some pieces of old paper affixed to the back of the board, with the notations "I saw this watercolor in previous undamaged condition with signature Thoe...
THREE original watercolors of women in elaborate costuming of the Art Nouveau period, circa 1890's, each signed with the pen name "Japhet", identical sizes and framing, (10 1/4" by 6 1/2", and 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" framed), by the noted French illustrator artist ALEXANDRE JEAN LOUIS JAZET (1814-1897). Jazet was the son of an artist who became a skilled engraver and lithographer, working often in stage design as an illustrator. He often signed with the pen name "Japhet" and "Minon"...
Gouache and watercolor on grayish tan paper, 7" by 9 1/2" inside the present mat (14 1/2" by 17" as framed), signed at lower left by listed French academy artist PIERRE FREDERIC LEHNERT (1811-?). This is a beautifully executed poetic drawing by an artist who showed at 19th century salons in Paris. From auction records it appears that studies of shepherds and sheep were a staple of the artist's production. Condition is excellent...

The work measures 12 1/2" by 10 1/4", (16 1/2" by 15" framed). Stull is considered one of two major American painters of thoroughbred racehorses, the other being Edward Troye. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, he was exposed at an early age to horses...

At far left in the distance is the rest of the village...

American
This is an original oil on canvas painting by American Harrison Bird Brown (1831-1915) This view of Seaside Cliffs and the moody sea has an image size of 14X24 inches, signed lower right H.B. Brown. Watercolor on paper, 8 1/2" by 17 1/2" inside the mat (13 1/2" by 22 1/2" in its very nice circa 1920 vintage frame), signed at lower right and inscribed there "Munich" by the well listed American artist CHARLES PAUL GRUPPE (1860-1940). The subject is a creek or small lake or pond at sunset. Born in Ontario, Canada, Gruppe was in Europe by age 20, where he explored France, Germany and Holland. I imagine that this work would date to that early 1880's period when he would have been in Germany...

The artist signed at center left edge and dated the painting 1901. This is an excellent example of still life work of the period in New England. Storer was born in Boston, He exhibited at the Boston Art Club and the National Academy. Most existing paintings appear to date to near the end of the artist's life. ...
