Watercolor on paper, 9 1/2" by 13 3/4" (16 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed), the subject a 19th century shipwreck engulfed by waves on what appears to be an Atlantic ocean beach, some tiny sails visible on the distant horizon. The artist painted in New England and specifically on Nantucket so this could well be coastal New England. The watercolor is signed at lower left by the listed Ohio and Pennsylvania artist RUFUS WAY SMITH (1840-1900)...

A charming work in watercolor with white gouache highlights, 13 1/2" by 10 1/2" (19" by 16" framed), featuring a young woman in the hugely popular Gibson tradition of the early years of the century, viewing her image in a hand-held decorative Art Nouveau mirror as she applies her lipstick. The work is signed at left "L. B. Hill" and dated 1910. Gibson had many imitators of his illustration style, some very talented and some less talented. This piece would be ideal in a woman's dressing area...

Original 19th century lithograph "A Scene in Old Ireland", by Currier and Ives, the famous American printmakers. This is a true antique hand-colored lithograph and not a later restrike. The work is framed in a late 19th century wood frame with gold inner fillet. Wood backing with rotary saw marks indicates it was framed after the 1870's. Measurements are 12" by 15 3/4" as framed (margins are ample but might have been trimmed a little in early days)...

Likely painted for the southern tourist trade between about 1920 and 1950 or so, is this oil on a slice of palmetto wood, roughly oval shape, approximate dimensions 10" by 13", the slab 1" thick, signed at bottom left in the image "A. Donhauser". This locale could be anywhere from Texas through Georgia, given the Spanish Moss on the tree. The palmetto slab is unusual and adds interest. An unusual item. There is a small loss on the tree trunk.

A circa 1990's signed oil on canvas painting of a coastal scene, 8" by 15", approximately 15" by 22" framed, signed lower left by acclaimed contemporary California artist RITA HOFFMAN SHULAK (1947-). I contacted the artist online, and she was kind enough to respond that this was her work, a not completed painting, probably of the La Jolla rocks in San Diego. She said that the work is from a period when she was experimenting with "washes"...

Found in Connecticut, this beautifully drawn still life features poinsettia in a blue and white vase, other props including a Greek or Russian icon, a book and a plate, the work signed at lower right by artist Charlotte Newton. There is an askart listing for an artist of that name, born in Missouri in 1839, a resident of Los Angeles by 1880, who passed away in 1914...

Georges Rouault 1871-1958 French This is an original lithograph by French artist Georges Rouault. This is a portrait of Gustave Moreau, the teacher and mentor of Rouault. It is known as the portrait in the little hat. This pencil signed impression is the 3rd state of 4 with the edition of 25. It was later published in state 4 with an edition of 350. This lithograph was created and printed in 1926. The image measures 9 1/8X6 3/4 inches. This image is cataloged as F. 57.

Oil on canvas laid on board landscape painting of a small structure by the bay or sea, several figures milling around, 12" by 16", unframed, signed at lower right corner by listed early California artist BENJAMIN RABORG (1871-1918). Raborg was born in Missouri but came to be known around the turn of the century in San Francisco for his painting ability. The nephew of early California artist A.D.M...

An excellent example of the work of David Gibson, signed, lower left, "Gibson 1793". The sitter is a woman wearing a gown with low decolletage and a green and yellow hat. She is posed looking pensively to the viewer's left.

The painting is in excellent condition, with no flaws to speak of, and is in a gilt metal pendant case...

A beautifully crafted oil on board painting of a barge and its brightly painted bow at a river dock in Europe, 13 3/4" by 17" (19 1/2" by 23" in inexpensive modern frame). signed at lower left by master Hungarian artist ERVIN KORMENDI-FRIM (1885-1939). A number of small figures, a bridge span, and distant buildings complete the richly-painted scene. The distinct structure at center right in the distance could provide a clue as to where in Europe this might be...
