Measuring 8.25 inches long, this vintage, Black Mammy Spoon rest was made in JAPAN in the 1950's. Along with its jolly, wide-eyed caricature, the spoon rest features a purple-colored tulip painted on both sides and reads “SPOONREST” in black lettering at the top of the Mammy's polka-dotted, purple headscarf. Note small "hanging hole" in back for display on the kitchen wall!

Very few of these pieces survive due to the high level of use they encountered...

A superb late Victorian tortoiseshell celluloid hair backcomb with an opulent paste laden wings design c1890-1900. This hair accessory measures 5-1/4" x 3", and the white paste claw-set stones are mounted within gold plated wirework; this unsigned beauty is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks, corrosion, losses, damage or repairs other than a bit of loss to the worework gilding, and all teeth of the comb are intact. Beautiful and versatile long necklace in transparent blue and green glass links with gilt metal mountings and glass based faux pearls, with a slide clasp with wired glass beads and faux pearls. Made by the Venetian glass maker Archimede Seguso, for Chanel. Not marked but very well documented. I am also selling a similar necklace and a pair of earrings from the same collection. Super wearable for day or night, and great to layer with other Chanel necklaces...

For the political memorabilia collector here is a wonderfully drawn original satirical work showing former president Jimmy Carter in his 1970's prime, holding a basketball and dressed as a player. It appears to likely reference his having been a basketball player at Plains, Georgia High School in the early 1940's; photos of him with the team can be found on the net by googling "jimmy carter basketball". The drawing is in soft brown color pencil with slight olive green highlights...

Nicely made piece, I am presuming here that this is for some kind of incense, there is a hole at the side of the head where you would put your incense and smoke would then come out of the eyes... There are a couple of chops to the paint on the base, please see photos

Indigo-dyed heavy cotton shop Apron, for a Sake purveyor, central logo reads “Cha” (Tea, the common name of drinking establishments in old Japan was “Cha-ya,” or “Tea House.” Stencil-dyed on both sides with shop name and address, braided cotton waist tie. All lines read right to left, and top to bottom, in the old pre-WWII style. Unsure on actual readings, but meanings are clear...

An unusual vintage Halloween wooden ratchet noisemaker decorated with a plastic black cat. This is the only old wooden ratchet we've seen with a plastic decoration. The ratchet is stained orange with a green clacker. The cat is marked "Made In Japan."
