Small bottle-shape vase by Dean Mullavey (Canadian, born in New Hampshire, USA, in 1927), in excellent condition. This small stoneware bottle measures 4 1/4" in height. Incised signature and chop. It was created around 1960-1961 while the artist was a member of the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY (all information courtesy of the artist). From a North Carolina estate. One of four early works by this artist currently available.
I visited the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC a little more than a year ago and saw some really creative ceramics with leather incorporated into the composition among related, sculptural works. This is a really great Antique Curio Five Finger Vase made by McCoy in 1962. This Vase has a white matte finish with grapes and leaves on the front side. It measures 8 1/4 inches high X 10 1/4 inches wide at the widest part. It is in very good condition with no cracks, but does have a 1/4 inch chip on the bottom back corner.
