A drum handle from a gompa used by a lama. The handle can be removed for a better handling, especially when the lama had to go for a family ceremony, marriage, funerals etc. the drum; the drum is quite heavy as it is made in a single piece of wood with almost no figurative carving only one chimeric animal on each side. A very typical figure from the remote Karnali area showing a so called "Protector" coated with white mineral pigment (Seto mato) mostly on the front side. The figure is in the standing position and was obviously kept inside. This kind of figures are associated with animist cult of protection of house or village. Few chips and a large crack which can be seen on the pictures but good overall condition...
