Japanese cotton obi from mid to late Showa period, 1980s(?). This obi was sold from the Mitsukoshi Department Store (2 logos attached at the corner). 100 percent cotton, new condition with some color loss. 12 1/4" wide x 141" long; it weighs approx. 1.2 pounds.

Lacquer over wood picnic set in an open carrier; consisting on the top tier of a small rectangular box, presumably for utensils, and five small trays. Below them is a covered three tier jubako box. The black lacquer is incised in places and otherwise decorated with gilt and silver blossom sprays. A small copper/brass handle is on the top. Many of the edges are gilt. This 20th century Chinese YiXin teapot is 3 ¾” high, 4 ½” in diameter and 7” long from spout to the handle. The artist’s name, which is illegible, is stamped inside the lid. Another stamped square seal “China, YiXin” is on the bottom. The design on the pot depicts a peach tree and peach on the lid, spout, handle and part of the body. It is in excellent condition.

This type of phurba shows tall, single or twin riders. They all seem to originate from Langtang District and are attributed to the Tamang people. The iconography of the Hayagriva horse is often found in Buddhist iconography. Here, the horses have riders who are the shamans; the mythical horse with its supernatural power will allow the shaman to move around the dangerous invisible world of demons and other evil spirits...
Four Zohiko lacquer plates. Colorful leaf decoration sparsely applied on black ground with almost iridescent effect with gold and silver maki-e and red details. Zohiko marks in gold lacquer on the flat bottoms without foot rims. 20th century. Very good condition with only light rubbing on the bottoms (likely easily polished out by a professional.) 20th century. Diameters 7 3/4 inches (19.685 cm).
