Chinese Archaistic Exotic wood Double handled libation cups. unique and quite old pair of tiger handled libation cups or tiny censors? The wood is unknown it seems like a very fine burl or possibly a sandal wood notice the extremely tiny wood knots that appear as spots. The interior cup fits a US quarter. No damage no marks. Hakata doll was originated by a roof tile maker in the early 17C during the construction of Fukuoka castle. Hakata is located on the Kyushu island (southern island), famous to other porcelain makers such as Satsuma, Imari, Nabeshima and Hirado. This handsom groom is 7 1/2" tall and almost in mint condition. She is 8" tall in excellent condition with some minor stains on her right arm area as shown in one of the picture.

The natural ash Hagi glaze gives this piece a mellow yet robust feel. The foot of the bowl is unglazed in places showing traces of ferrous-rich clay in the form of an orangish hue. The sides of the bowl show pale ash, ivory, and faint hints of lavender. Overall a classic and attractive example of an expertly crafted Hagi tea bowl.

Japanese mid 20th century large lacquered wooden tray with shell inlays. The inside of the tray is done in a abstract design in colors. The upper edge and back are done in solid black lacquer. There are shell inlays on the 4 edges of the front of the tray and on the upper left hand corner on the back. The tray measures 19" wide, 19" tall and about 2" in depth. Signed Rokuhei, by artist, Koseki Rokuhei (1918 -). Comes with TOMOBAKO, artist signed wooden storage box.
