This is a Chinese Nephrite JADE PENDANT with a Carving of a LADY. The back has a depiction of a Leaf. Size is 1 5/8" X 3" X 1" in thickness. There is a pierced point at the top where a Pendant Bale can be attached. This Carving has a Primitive feel. Based upon what the original owner told me, this Pendant was purchased in mainland China. Date this JADE LADY circa 1950, perhaps earlier. FYI... the Stone easily passes the Jade Scratch test. Condition is Excellent...

Classic Nephrite Cong. This is oldest Chinese form still used in its art today. The earliest examples were from the Liangzhu Culture circa 3400 BCE. It’s theorized that the square outer shape represented the while the inner round shape represented the Heavens. The pendant carved in a rarely seen brown-black stone. This fine nephrite pendant comes from an old German Collection of handpicked Chinese jade carvings of insects from different periods, from the Neolithic to 20th. century.
