Beautiful framed Japanese urushi-e painting by artist Hakuo Iriyama (born 1904 in Shirone, Niigata). Urushi-e is a style of Japanese art in which colored lacquers are used, along with mica and metal elements as accents. This piece depicts Mount Fuji, raised against a deep blue background, with etched rock formations in bright gold and orange lacquer at its peak, fading to brown lacquer with silver mica-powder mists floating around it...

A rather unusual fan painting (senmen) portraying an image of a dragon rising above the clouds done using fingers. The tradition of finger painting is thought to have originated from China. Eccentric literati artists used their fingers instead of the brush to become one with the painting. Work contains a signature and seal by an artist named Sonsen. A large silk painting of a scene from the history of Japan by Kai Seihyo (1882-1974), one of Japan's noted painters specializing in historical subjects. Kai Seihyo was trained at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts. It was later in Seihyo's life where the artist began producing unique historical subjects and received high acclaim where Seihyo was known for his paintings of samurai and horses. Satsuki was from Kyoto, the most famous pupil of Tomioka Tessai, early C20. This painting is beautifully painted with black and plum colours, perfectly combining strength and delicacy in the technique and in the subject matter. In Japanese culture as in Chinese, plum blossom symbolizes strength and nobility of character. Good condition, some creases, with original signed box. Size: L: 199cm W 42cm.

Hanging scroll. Shoki holds Futen’s wind bag which balloons around him and protects him from a very light rain. While Shoki has his hands full trying to control the wind bag, his bulging eyes are rolled in defeat and annoyance towards the right, where a little demon who has a Chinese mortar on his head and holds the pestle in its hand jumps in front of him.

The hermit seems to be relaxing under the plum tree, as if meditating. It is depicted with so much presence that he almost pop off the screen. The soft hair is made with plenty of gofun(which is slightly lost), and the work is beautifully painted in detail, as if we can feel the texture of the skin.
