DESCRIPTION: An unusual netsuke featuring an abalone shell crafted from wavy burl wood with an ivory lobster perched on top. The lobster’s curled antennas are made of metal, and on the underside of the shell a signature is etched into the wood. Early to mid 20th century in very good condition. DIMENSIONS: 1 ¾” long (4.5 cm).

Japanese Ikebana woven Bamboo wall hanging Basket, 12 1/2" high, 3 3/4" 2 3/4" wide-bamboo basket only, woven with all natural material, the condition is good.

1 of 2 matching Bamboo tubular shaped Ikebana, this beautiful flower arrangement piece is the smaller of the two. Characteristically carved with bamboo, and charmingly contrasted with black lacquer lining on inside. Top holder is dish like depth, and bottom holder is designed deeper to hold flowers. Written on the inside of the original box is the artists' testimonial to this piece. Carved by famed carver Terada Keitaro (artist name : Kei'in) when he was 71 and his retirement piece. Carved in Showa 29 (1954) he went into Ryozen-zan mountain in Shiga Prefecture and found the perfect wild mulberry wood for his final masterpiece. Perfectly captured mood of the scene, extraordinary carving to the last detail, eyes are double inlaid with horn and mother of pearl, beautiful finish, in superb condition. Striking Showa Period c.1930 negoro lacquered tray. Negoro lacquering techniques were developed in the Edo Period at Negoro Temple in Wakayama Pref. putting on layers of black lacquer then covering with red lacquer and burnishing until the black rubbed through.
