Japanese black lacquered paper mache box for storing tea. Holding a teapot, the figure's face and hands appear to be bone or ivory. Measures 5.5" x 2.75".
This tea set was brought back by American missionary who was in China 1920-1948...She was repatriated to the US immediately after WW2 and returned by way of Japan. Considering condition of Japan when she was there, set was probably made sometime before WW2. The 4 piece set was probably used to accompany hina doll display

Woodblock print by Japanese sōsaku-hanga artist Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) titled "Irozaki Morning". It shows the beautiful Cape Irozaki, done with soft pastels in the sky as the sun rises in the distance. Waves crash upon the rocks in the foreground, and three ships can be seen leaving port. It is signed and titled in pencil along the bottom, stamped in the corner, and also signed in kanji along the outer edge.

White cotton cording along the edges, with button hole stitching as the main attraction. Hand made from quality leather and decorated with delicate thread embroidery at the toe tips and last border, the traditional pair of womans leather shoes would have been worn by a woman of some means...judging by their overall condition, these shoes have been worn a few times.
