Very beautiful dark wood phurbu richly carved, the top shows 3 beautiful faces of protective ancestors of exceptional sculptural quality, each face measures 5 to 6 cm high. The top shows a miniature animal head (1.5 cm high), probably that of the mythical horse Hayagriva. The central part is a beautiful dorgi very finely carved. The triangular point shows a trunk wrapped in the mouth of Makara, each hand of which holds the head of a snake which rise from the point of the Phurbu; H 28.5 cm

This large traditional Suriname Maroon wood comb has identical carvings on both sides and would have been worn for ceremonies. The Suriname Maroons were originally sub Saharan African slaves that were brought to and escaped from the Caribbean plantations. They fled to the hills where they established their own villages far beyond the the Spanish "authorities"who then ruled the Caribbean Islands at the time. A 19th century Chinese canopy lacquered bed of cypress and elmwood (ju-mu). The bed rail has a turned spindle gallery with a low relief carving of scrolling floral panels as the back splash. The canopy spandrel has turned hook-spindles for holding drapes or clothing. The main canopy lattice pattern has a centralized floral medallion. The bed platform stands on a carved gadrooned bun foot on stretcher. The facade apron has framed low relief carvings of a floral motif...

A rare antique Chinese apple green Peking Glass snuff bottle with stopper. The bottle has rounded shoulders and a thin carved oval shaped foot. The jade lid with a coiled dragon and bone spoon. Chinese glass was largely used to imitate more precious materials such as white jade, Lapis Lazuli and other valuable minerals.

Appears in Mixed Kachina Dance, or in an ordinary kachina dance where he spies on the clowns...

Yukata (cotton unlined kimono) with shibori (tie-dye) whose motifs are tomoe (three-way), aboshi (fishing net being dried) and a logo with the character uma (horse). The shibori techniques are: Miura shibori and Ori-nui shibori (folded and stitched). It is hand-sewn and all tie-dye is by hand. Vegetable indigo dyed. An antique Chinese seal chop of soapstone with an image of Hotei. Chinese seals are used with red ink or cinnabar paste (zhusha). A seal in an East is a general name for printing stamps and impressions which are used in lieu of signatures in personal documents, office paperwork, contracts, art, or any item requiring acknowledgement or authorship. The process started in China and soon spread across East Asia.
