A fascinating portrait of the noted ukiyoe artist, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. The work was painted by his disciple, Yamanaka Kodo (1869-1945) in 1934 and was originally part of the collection of Kobori Sakae, who collected various old books and donated his collection to the Waseda University. Rare old Shui ethnic minority baby carrier is from Gui Zhou province China. The upper section is elaborately embroidered using mostly satin stitch technique. The lower section is embroidered with horsehair wrapped thread design. Although this carrier shows extensive use, and shows a bit of dirt, it retains its beauty. Measures approx 20" x 36"

This lovely album was attributed to Ishihara Matsuyoshi 石原松芳, signed in 昭和庚辰年 (1940). 28 spreads (56 pages) in total, and 27 paintings in one album. Subjects from birds, flowers, mythologies, still life, figures to landscapes, a glimpse of the artist's rich spiritual world. Signed with two seals on each painting. Very good condition, no big damage except for the aging paper.

Ceremonial jinbaori jacket made for Japanese Boy's Day. Jinbaori is a campaign jacket worn over armor by Samurai. They were first made to protect generals from the cold and rain and soon became more elaborate and fashionable by using rare materials such as wool, velvet and brocades.

This is a wool jacket made by Maruhei of Kyoto for boy's festival, Sekku. Founded in Kyoto in 1779, Maruhei (master craft man, Heizo Oki) has been one of the most influential doll makers in Japan...

Handcrafted Antique Japanese bronze morse code sender on wooden base. Inscriptions on wood state the piece is from a Tokyo School, dated October 1938. Signature on bottom of piece. Very cool item and Unusual Dimensions: 6" Long, 4" Wide, 3.5" Tall

Quality, Japanese lacquered wood kimono hanger. The hanger comes in the box with the old tissue paper inside. The writings on the box and the tissues (old with lots of storage stains - appeared new in the photos) indicate that it was "Made by Wajima", pre WWII. Wajima lacquer has been know for the best for it's superior quality. Very light (kiri wood inside?). Taisho to early Showa, 1920 to 1940. The condition is new (stayed in the box without being used). 25" long, 5/8" in diameter...

Japanese Male Doll with Samurai hair cut, 3 5/8" high, 4 3/4" wide, 3" deep, wearing brocade silk garment. The expression of his face is very well executed and lacquered on the carved wood. The condition is very good.

Basket handmade of Yama-budo, wild grapevine which grows deep in the mountains. It is used by a mountain worker as a backpack. Generally in good condition but has a few minor breaks. The first half of the 20th century. W:43cm x 28cm x 15cm.

Pre Columbian style spout pot depicting an animal . This pot is mold formed and hand incised. Its in undamaged un chipped condition with alot of mineral deposits in all the incised lines pictures don't show that well. size l 6" w 4 1/4 " h 4 "

Vintage Japanese lacquer kogai style kanzashi - a hair pin - with lacquer decoration of flowers in a stream. Kogai type kanzashi consists of two sticks featuring a design on each end, which tend to be wider than the centre. Kogai resemble sheathed swords, with one end being removable in order for it to be placed in the hairstyle. Wonderful lacquer work, in very good vintage condition. Length assembled 4 1/4 inches. Part of East Coast Japanese hair items collection.
