A stoneware dinner plate with a shaped edge transfer printed in light blue with an elaborate floral border on the lip and an equally elaborate alpine view with flowers and chalet in the well. On the back a floral cartouche with the title, “Genevese” in the center and “Opaque China” on the lower edge with a script capital “A.” This pattern was made by Minton with the letter “M,” this plate was probably made by them with a different letter. Pair of Staffordshire pottery cake plates with light blue transfer decoration in the Canton or "Willow" theme. Neither plate is marked.

Origin: England, circa 1850. Condition: one plate has a crow's foot visible only from the back; the other has a 1/2" flake on the back of the rim; both have some staining, particularly along the rims. Size: 10" diam.

A fine pottery dark blue and white Staffordshire platter, transfer printed in the "Birds and Fruit" pattern. Unmarked except for an impressed "12" on the reverse, but attributed to John Hall & Sons, Burslem, England.

The central scene features two birds amidst a panoply of fruit, including pears, strawberries, blackberries, grapes, etc. The cavetto and wide rim has a border of flowers and foliage...

A pottery circular flask with the center of both sides decorated with a purple transfer of a man fishing in a river across from a church. The transfer surrounded by a brown/red raised band then hand painted purple flowers, green leaves, and red buds. The mouth with a beaded edge and neck decorated in the same red/brown. 7 3/8 inches from mouth to bottom, 6 ¾ inches across.

Condition: no chips, cracks or repairs. The green enamel has flaked off in a couple of places...

A Staffordshire punch bowl decorated with both freehand painting and the transfer of the Chinese ladies and part of the fence in the center of the bowl. The border and the four sprays that decorate the outside of the bowl are all hand painted, as is the pink lustre mountain behind the ladies. The decoration is bright and cheerful. 9 ½ inches diameter, 4 ½ inches tall.

Condition; Excellent, no chips cracks hairlines or repairs...

A large tyg with hand painted apples and leaves with green dental banding and green dashes on the three handles. The tyg, or loving cup, is a popular form for Wemyss. Marked with impressed “WEMYSS WARE” in an arch over “R.H.&S.” 7 ½ inches tall, 87/8 inch diameter at base. Handles are about 2 ¼ inches out from the body.

Condition. No chips. There are two hairline cracks extending from the rim part of the way down the body. One handle broken off and restuck...

A very nicely painted Pratt Ware cottage decorated with a blue tiled roof, children at the windows with an oversize female standing beside it. On one end of the cottage is a woman with a cornucopia (?) and on the other a flowering tree. At the back in the roof is a slot for large pennies. The colors are well applied. Similar cottages are illustrated in John and Griselda Lewis Pratt Ware, 2006 edition page 249...

A beautiful English creamware plate decorated with violet swags with green trim along the rim of the plate and the edges of the swags. Aside from being of unusual structure, the violet color is rare, and the presence of a second color extremely rare.

This type ware is often mistakenly referred to as Leeds and featheredge. In reality, many factories other than Leeds made items of this nature, and the type edge here is more properly called a molded edge...

Circa 1870, brown transferware platter, Staffordshire Nanking pattern, by E. Challinor. In very good condition, there is some crazing commensurate with age and some staining, most notably on the back. Measures about 18 inches long, 14" high, and 1.5" deep. Hanger included.

In referring to certain types of pottery, "Leeds" and "featheredge" are both common misnomers. People think of certain types of Staffordshire pottery as being Leeds while in actuality only a small portion was made by that factory.

Further, to be completely accurate, this platter is really what is known as "shell-edge", as opposed to featheredge. It is pearlware, made around 1810, and is an extremely large 17 3/4" by 13 1/4" in size...

A Mortlake Saltglaze Tankard. With an sprigged fox hunting scene around the base below Toby figures. With silvered mounts. Mortlake C1800, Height of tankard 5 1/8" (13.0 cm). Excellent condition.

A group of five small pottery figures, four of people and one of a very smush faced lion. All painted in what look like both overglaze and underglaze colors. This type of figure was two part molded and produced in quantity. The tallest is 5 inches tall. These figures date to the first quarter of the 19th century.

Condition: All have some chips and the man with his head leaning on one hand has had the base repaired.

As mentioned for other similar items on the site, this type ware is often mistakenly referred to as Leeds and featheredge. This particular plate was made by Riley, and is indicated as such with an impressed mark on the back. Being able to identify the maker does increase the value to some extent. Also, green-edged wares are considerably less common than blue.
