Beautiful little antique French hinged box with blue enameling and gold gilt over bronze. Featuring a miniature portrait that is surrounded by ornate reticulation which in turn is accented with glass faux rubies and faux lapis lazuli. The blue enamel ground in the portrait matches the darker blue surround trim. Velvet lined, this makes a perfect little box to protect that special piece of jewelry. Measures 3 3/8" across, 2 3/4" deep, and 1 inch high.

A very fine pair off Lincoln gilt bronze die-cut bookends dating to the very early 20th century, most likely for the centennial in 1909. The gilding is well worn but the patina is very beautiful. Measuring 5.5” in height and about 5” in width.

An antique Japanese Kake Suzuribako (aka calligraphy merchant box) made of Kuri (Chestnut) wood. All original finish and hand forged iron hardware. Hinged lid opens to a storage area where an inkstone and Sumi (ink sticks) were kept. The remainder of the top has a slot where coins were inserted to be kept in the upper drawer out of the sight of wondering eyes. Two additional drawers were used to keep calligraphy brushes and Washi paper used for writing...

A pair of black papier mache wine bottle coasters, each beautifully hand painted with a colorful bird within a red and gilt cartouche. The form is quite rare, with more common versions made of silver or silver plate. Because of the date, and the quality exhibited in these, it is quite probable that they were made by Jennens and Bettridge (fl. 1815-1864), the English firm most respected for this type work.
The coasters are 6 1/4" in diameter and 1/2" in depth...

A fancy ornate brass oval frame having trefoil cartouches with leaves and edged with beading encircle the mirror held up by easel stand whose stretcher is detached from the frame. However the stand is still most functional. The frame is a very elegant reminder of a lost craft. Please note that we have painted out the glass mirror - not to hide anything other than the photographer.
