The graphic impact of this blanket box with paint decoration is absolutely stunning. It is swirl decorated in black over a yellowish-putty color, and virtually all the paint is intact. Beautiful antique Japanese choba tansu, merchant's storage chest, all original finish with keyaki (elm) wood panels on the front finished in a medium brown, sugi (cryptomeria) wood frame finished with a black lacquer, iron hardware, safe box with two small drawers on the inside, Edo Period (early 1800's).

An antique Japanese Kuruma Bo Tansu (wheeled chest with locking bar) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite style handles. Two large drawers with two sliding doors below hiding 3 small drawers to the right and a spacious storage area to the left. Side and rear horizontal bars were designed for strength and visual appeal.
