A fine group of ancient pottery oil lamps, Later Roman to Byzantine periods, ca. 3rd.-6th. century AD.
Group consists of a 86 mm. long Roman lamp, 2nd.-3rd. cent. AD, a small round terracotta type, quite rare, 70 mm. long, likely Early Roman (?) and a larger Holyland type, Palestine ca. 6th. century AD. with ribbed corpus (damage to mouth), 95 mm.
A nice lot for one price!

The flat rim with a fine groove around the outer edge. All covered by a thin smoothed slip.

Authentic ancient ca. 1st – 4th Century A.D., Imperial Roman terracotta oil lamp with round conical body and a large central filling hole with a raised ring border and three flame nozzles.
CONDITION: Unbroken, with some chips on outer edge and inner ring. Nice patina, showing the age and usage, sooty nozzles from original use, some spots with old wax deposits on the surface.

Scarce and beautiful early type of pottery Oil lamp, Roman 1st. century AD.
The lamp is of the Loeschcke Typus VIII and displays Juno on a Crescent moon in high relief! The lamp is sharply stamped with a known scarce makers name: COPPI.RES
