A splendid and rare pottery Oli lamp, likely North Africa, 4th. century AD.

The lamp depicts a wonderfully detailed portrait of the Empress Fausta in a central medallion inside a decoration with geomethric and floral symbols - very decorative composition.

Size: 13,3 cm.

Condition: Nearly superb, microscopic closed ding to the spout, but it's intact.

Roman wine amphora with spindle-shaped body on a short ring foot. Rounded shoulder with short neck, the handles attached just below the bulged mouth.
Typologically this is a Gaulish wine amphora (amphore vinaire Gauloise), which was manufactured in Galia Narbonensis, French Provence area. Type Gauloise 4, after Sciallano/Sibella. Amphores: comment les identifier? Paris 1991.

Rare moldmade lamp decorated with two dolphins and a rosette on the rounded shoulder.
Central filling hole. The broad-tipped nozzle ends in small volutes close to the discus ring.
The base with two raised rings. Surface partially covered with a red-brown glaze.

Mold-made factory lamp of Loeschcke type IXb. The sunken discus with a central filling hole, the elongated air-hole pierced along the nozzle channel. The base with a sunken central area.
The shape is known from North Italian makers like Strobilus, Atimeti and others.
Numerous variants of their products were also confectioned in Gaul and Germania, although it is not clear if by branch workshops of by plagiarisers.

A fine group of ancient pottery oil lamps, Later Roman to Byzantine periods, ca. 3rd.-6th. century AD.

Group consists of a 86 mm. long Roman lamp, 2nd.-3rd. cent. AD, a small round terracotta type, quite rare, 70 mm. long, likely Early Roman (?) and a larger Holyland type, Palestine ca. 6th. century AD. with ribbed corpus (damage to mouth), 95 mm.

A nice lot for one price!

Roman red-ware fragment of a lamp with a partially preserved horse on the discus.
The animal head with flared nostrils, open mouth and bare teeth. The big eye with eyelashes, the ears laid back. Mane and tail hatched.
Trappings around the neck and the croup decorated with tiny dots. On the croup a swastika with dots in the interstices, possibly a brand.

Extremely rare early discus shaped type of pottery Oil lamp, Roman late 1st. century AD.

The lamp is of the Loeschcke Type IV and displays a scene with Hercules fighting the Hydra on it's discus. An awesome motif and an important lamp for the historically interested collector or scolar.

Size: 11,5 cm.

Condition: Nice for the rare type, a few cracks restored nicely and intact with nothing missing.

Broad redware dish rim fragment depicting a very fine and detailed shrub with berries. The relief decoration was taken from a separate mold and applied to the almost flat rim.
The fragment belongs to the rim of a large dish with a calculated diameter of ca. 39 cm (15.4 in). A groove runs along the outer edge.
