ROMAN PERIOD, 1st - 2nd Cent. AD

This lovely perfume vessel with beautiful patina has survived the centuries with its beauty intact. The flattened body rising to a firm and graceful cylindrical neck with a rim folded outwards.

One of the earliest types of free blown-glass vessels in an elongated bottle with a short body and a long neck. The content of such bottles could be poured out slowly, in tiny drops, and the small mouth was easily stoppered...

A beautiful gold earring with a three-layered agate. Roman, 2nd - 3rd century AD.

Very attractive and in a fine condition, with nice patina.

An interesting large and heavy applique, likely from furniture in bronze, with 4 masks protruding, early Roman style ca. 1st.-2nd. century AD.

With two lion masks at the top and further down a pair of theatre masks also known in abbundance from the oil lamps. These four masks are graduately getting smaller with the first lion mask the largest.

Size: 11,3 cm. Weight: 113 grams.

Condition: Choice! Very nice brown patina.

It is thick and heavy, unflawed, no chips or cracks, no hairlines,it has impressed squares on the body for about two third of the way down. Unguentaria used to hold poisonous, caustic oils or ointments and were never smooth sided, to prevent the Roman from grabbing the dangerous oil by mistake.
