The medallion decorated with the head of a satyr with wild locks and curled heavy beard. The face shows a fleshy nose, full lips and wide open eyes topped by marked eyebrows. The bold head with fine floccus. Goat-like ears.
Satyrs and silens were a very popular subject in the decoration of gutti.
The head is from the same mold as inv. no. 20187 in the Bari Archaeological Museum, cf. fig. no. 81 (T84) in: Fernando Gilotta. Gutti e askoi a rilievo italioti ed etruschi. Roma 1985.

Unguentaria are small ceramic or glass bottles frequently found in burial contexts. Their most common use was probably as a container for oil. The unguentarium is sometimes referred to as lacrimarium (tear-container) or balsamarium (balsam-container). All three terms reflect different assumptions about their use.

This is a nice little dagger from the collection of the late John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo's tag will stay with the item. It weighs 42 grams and measures nearly 17cm. It has three rivet perforations in the handle. It does not appear to have any repair and seems fairly solid. This is a good chance to own an inexpensive piece from the Piscopo collection.

Seal ring, its bezel of square shape with an incised design representing a helmeted king riding a "lamassu". Bronze, with partly encrusted reddish-green patina. Mesopotamia, Neo-Assyrian Empire, 10th to 7th century B.C. Bezel dimensions: 18 x 18 mm. Height of the ring: 24 mm. Inside diameter: 18 mm. Good condition. NOTE: a lamassu is a protective deity having a human head, the body of a bull or a lion, and sometimes wings.

Rare style ancient Roman painted clay and highly decorated clay oil lamp known as "BEIT NATIF". The oil lamp is nicely decorated with geometric deign all around the shoulders with soot marks. Looped handle, Beit Natif oil lamps rarely come with a looped handle like the one we have!

Interesting and unusually large decorated bronze tweezer, likely Roman but could be much older, perhaps late bronzeage European.

The tweezer measure 10,8 cm. in lenght and is solidly constructed and finely decorated with lines. Two tiny rivets in the low area. The design is most likely Roman, but the fine execution and the rivets could point to an earlier manifacture date.

Condition: Nice VF, absolutely lovely red-brown patina, but a c. 30% loss at one side.

A very large and finely preserved bronze seal with a loop on the back and a cross designs, Bactria, 3rd. millenium BC.

Highly interesting scaraboid seal of the earliest style and type we've seen, probably inspired by Egyptian scarab seals, Middle bronze age of the Levant, c. 2200-1600 BC.

The seal is very large and carved in a greenish black stone. Interestingly, there's remnants of the metal mount, probably a chain in iron or bronze (looks like iron!). The seal is carved with Capride with a bird above.

This is a large, deeply molded sculpture which would have been used to make appliques for attachment to larger vessels. The piece is 4-5/8" in length and its interior depth is more than 1". It depicts a lotus pod and comes with a rubberized impression. A beautiful piece of sculpture in its own right.

This is a fantastic find. It is an early Persian anchor-shaped axe dating to roughly 2200-2000 BC. This piece is stable and solid with only a few losses to the shaft/guard area. This piece weighs 466 grams and measures 12 cm from top to bottom. It is roughly 3 cm thick at the shaft holes. This is a very unique copper alloy or bronze axe head. It is possibly Elamite in origin. It appears to be an early piece based on the reddish brown patina that is typical of high copper content pieces. It does appear to have been cleaned at some point. The socket is rectangular. There is a perforation on either side of the socket for attachment to the shaft pole. There is also a perforation in the rear blade which may or may not be original to the piece.
