Chinese 4th Rank Court Official's silk badge of a wild goose. The background is black silk and is embroidered with very fine metal threads. The sun and its tendrils are silver foiled threads tacked down with red silk threads. The flowers are also silver but tacked down with green silk threads. The flowers appear to be white chrysanthemums, a symbol of nobility, elegance, and longevity. Each flower encompasses a display blue forbidden stitch knots to create the effect of pollen being dispersed...

In China, collars where made separately from the robe or garment. As such, the so-called cloud collars were used much like a necklace, allowing a single collar to be worn over various robes. This is a traditional Han Chinese style collar dates to the Qing dynasty period. The background fabric is white silk, bordered with black rolled trim. Made by a woman of somewhat limited means, this pair of lotus shoes date to the late Qing Dynasty. The vamp has a contrast of lavender and purple cotton fabric. Each toe is decorated with a delicate floral embroidery. There is a round heal attached to the sole... The shoes measure 5 inches. They show a minimal amount of wear...

Up for sale is an antique Chinese Qing dynasty round rank badge, 5-claw dragon couched with gold wrapped threads, and other fine embroideries including flaming pearl, clouds, sea waves and buddhist auspicious objects, framed and glazed. The badge is taken from the surcoat of a mmperial family member who was allowed to wear a round badge during the Qing dynasty. The badge is overall in very good condition, but never inspected outside the frame...

Sourced from an old estate, this pair of lotus shoes came with a hand written tag/label sewn to the back of one heel and a red paper the shape of the inner sole place inside on of the shoes. The paper is at the point flaking and disintegrating and the writing is in old Chinese and no longer readable. Because of the "tag and label, I suspect that these shoes were presented as a "gift" to a Western missionary, teacher or friend...
