An interesting early bronze figure of of Kali (probably), Southern Indian, perhaps Tamil Nadu, c. 16th.-18th. century or even earlier.

Condition: Very fine, old patina and much smooth wear from worship.

Provenance: Collection of Gunna Munkvad, Denmark, aquired from the 1960s-1980s.

18th century Indian bronze Shiva shrine from Western India in a form of a courtyard, the family of Shiva seated around a lingam, including his wife Parvati in her Annapurna manifestation and her son Ganesha, as well as Nandi bull and a seated figure of a shrine donor with offering in his hand. The back halo has the protective naga (cobra) with its hood wide open, and there is a pile of offerings in the front left corner of the shrine...

Small antique Tibetan bronze cup. Intended for holding water in a Buddhist shrine. Made of bronze and shaped in the form of a lotus with petals starting in a gardroon and ending in a scalloped edge just below a ring around a smooth rim.

Antique 18th-19th century Indo-Persian horseman's saddle axe (tabarzin), Islamic Mughal Northwest India, Bhuj, Gujarat.

The gilt copper head is crescent-shaped and adorned with hand-chased foliage and flowerheads on each side. It comes with a sturdy steel blade.

The protruding rear hammer has an elephant on top of it. The elephant has an engraved saddle blanket and is accompanied by two tigers, which are mounted on a tubular steel haft...

18th century Indian bronze chhappa (a tantric ritual stamp), its base leaving an imprint of a peacock feather. The chhappas were used during tantric temple ceremonies to stamp the proscribed parts of the body such as the forehead, cheeks, shoulders, forearms and stomach with a paste of white (for Vaishnavites) or red (for Shaivites) sandalwood. The marks on the body provide a visual display of the adherent’s devotion and transfer the beneficence of the deity to the wearer...

Late 189th century Indian bronze votive plaque depicting Khandoba (a form of Shiva worshipped in Western India) mounted on a horse with his wife Mhalsa in his lap, and a dog following the horse. Khandoba holds various implements in his upper hands and a short sword in his left lower hand. Two round holes with raised lips on top probably signify the sun and the moon. Nice quality casting for that type of plaques, beautiful patina, the front is graciously worn from 200 years of worship...

18th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of Radha beautifully flexing her body, her arms wide spread, a betel nut in her right hand, cast in the State of Orissa. Radha is a Hindu goddess and a chief consort of the god Krishna and is worshiped as the goddess of love, tenderness, compassion and devotion. She is the avatar of Lakshmi and is also described as the chief of gopis (milkmaids), who are entranced by Krishna playing flute...

18th century or earlier Indian bronze lamp stand from Western India in a form of Garuda standing on one knee, his hands in praying attitude, his wings spread, and with a naga (cobra) rising by his right leg. Garuda, being the mount of Vishnu, is regarded as representing essential qualities of the deity in animal form, and was worshipped as deity itself. Very nice casting, pleasant patina from the piece being handled, devotional wear on the front. Height 4 7/8 inches.

The katar is a type of push dagger from India. It is characterised by its H-shaped horizontal hand grip, which results in the blade of the sword sitting above the user's knuckles. Unique to South Asia, it is the most famous and characteristic of Indian daggers. Most katar have straight blades, but in south India they are commonly wavy...

A powerful image of Padmasambhava also known as Guru Rimpoche, the reputed founder of Tibetan Buddhism. Carved mostly of a single piece of precious dark purple sandalwood (zitan). Remains of colours and gold. Tibet, 17–18th cent. H 15 cm. Condition: Very good but of course with wear due to age. The trident (khatvanga) is missing.

18th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of Ganesha sitting on a rectangular throne, with his vahana (vehicle) - a bandicoot rat - in his lap, and holding his usual attributes in his 4 hands. There is a protective naga (cobra) above his head. Ganesha is the remover of obstacles, and thus is invoked before any new undertaking such as marriage or new business. He bestows good luck on his worshippers, and is prayed to in some forms of Tantric worship...

A lovely smaller but massive heavy bronze figure of a seated deity, probably Sri Devi / Lakshmi, holding implements and tall headdress and a breast band around her sizable attributes, South Indian, perhaps Tamil Nadu, c. 17th.-18th. century or earlier.

Size: 86 mm. tall and weighing a hefty 342 grams.

Condition: Choice Very fine, lovely oold patina, with a fine chestnut brown colour from high copper content.
