Antique Japanese Kiri wood (Paulownia) tansu. Original natural kiri wood finish. Medium weight black iron hardware with warabite handles and round locks on each drawer. Wonderful condition.

An antique Japanese Cha Tansu (tea chest) made entirely of Rosewood (Shitan). Beautiful configuration of sliding doors, shelves and drawers. Each display shelf has an arabesque border and the center and top shelf have a horizontal scrolling design. The top, back and sides all have floating panels and the chest has an open air design with areas for storage.

Age: Late Meiji-Taisho (1900-1920)

Beautiful Original Antique Japanese sword tansu, made from Kuri (chestnut) Hardwood. Gorgeous original natural lacquer finish. The two longest drawers have Kiri leaf Mon (emblem) iron locks, with a smaller storage drawer beside them.

Beautiful Japanese kannon biraki tansu, made from kiri wood, with heavy iron hardware and hirute handles. The top section has two hinged doors with a large central lock with floral designs, opening to reveal several drawers. Meiji period 1867-1912) Size: 40.75" height, 37.75" length, 16.5" depth

Antique Japanese unusual Butsudan (Shrine), made from solid Keyaki Hardwood. Interesting lattice style sliding carved doors with glass, gorgeous burl Keyaki panels, four drawers, and a unique pull-out shelf that stores away unnoticed. Great original condition and finish. Beautiful two-section keyaki (zelkova) tansu with a gorgeous, glowing honey lacquered front and red lacquered top and sides. Its features include large, decorative iron lockplates incised with auspicious symbols, warabite handles with pierced backplates, a lockbox that is, interestingly, on the top section rather than the bottom, with three red-lacquered drawers inside. All original finnish, Dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912). Size: 38.25" height, 41.75" width, 15.75" depth

Beautiful keyaki wood choba tansu (merchant's chest), from the Matsumoto region of Japan. It has a beautiful allover woodgrain and has black iron hardware with iron studding. It has two sliding panels with an iron lock down its center, drawers of varying sizes with warabite handles, and a pull-away panel with a kan (ring pull) handle, opening to a small compartment. Size: 34.5" height, 31.5" width, 14.25" depth

An antique Japanese Isho Tansu (Kimono chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original bronze hardware with Warabite style handles. Upper section includes a pair of sliding doors with 3 side by side drawers below. The bottom two sections each have full width drawers for clothes storage. Made using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails...

Unusual Japanese two-section tansu, with gorgeous Keyaki (elm) burl front, and Sugi (cedar) sides, with original lacquer finish. The design is highly unusual with three sets of sliding doors, one with glass panels, various size drawers and a lift-away panel with a charming natural burl handle. Meiji age (1868-1912)

Antique Japanese single section Kiri (paulownia) wood tansu, all natural original finish. Very simplistic and functional design. All drawers have iron locks and Hirute style iron handles. Two small drawers in the bottom corner are perfect for storing small valuables.

Antique Japanese unusual single-section clothing tansu, with Kiri (Paulownia) wood front drawers, Sugi (cedar) interior, with a Hinoki (cypress) wood pair of slatted, locking safe doors. Attractive, natural woodgrain with original dark finish. This piece comes from the Kyusu area of Japan and is rarely seen.

Antique Japanese gyosho bako (merchant's box) with a red-orange lacquer (negoro) finish and iron hardware with hirute shaped drawer pulls. It features three drawers on its front, two with iron lock plates, and a hinged door at its very bottom with a sideways facing handle over crossed hardware, with three extra drawers inside. Size: 34.5" height, 11" width, 16" depth

Antique Japanese two section futon tansu. The upper section has double sliding burl wood panel doors which house a roomy storage interior. The bottom section is comprised of six burl front drawers with decorative cloud design locks.

An antique Japanese Ranma (transom) made of Akita Sugi (northern Japan Cryptomeria) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. The frame was finished in a black Urushi lacquer while the design was hand carved in relief on both sides. It depicts a scene of a male and female flying crane (each symbolizing 1,000 years of long life and together symbolizing a harmonious partnership) gliding through a forest of gnarly pine trees (symbolizing longevity)...

Antique Japanese black lacquered cha tansu (tea display cabinet) with fabulous, intricate inlay designs of temple scenes, peacocks, and floral motifs. From the southernmost Japanese island known as Ryukyu.

Antique Japanese two-section tansu in gorgeous original Keyaki (hardwood) with original lacquer finish, with red lacquer top and sides. Iron hardware of a rosy tone adorns each corner and drawer front, such as kakute (squared) shape handles and fleur de lis style locks. Side safe box holds two small drawers within for small treasures. The tansu sits on a custom stand. Key is included. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912) Size: 37" H x 33.5" W x 17" D
