Of cold painted bronze, this sculpture was created by Franz Xavier Bergman (1861-1936) in the Vienna foundry that was opened by his father in 1860. The figure depicts a Chinese Golden Pheasant, and is one of numerous bronzes of birds by Bergman. Measuring 12" high (just under 31 cm)this cut glass ewer or claret jug is mounted with silver (800) and has an indistinct makers mark and the silver standard for Germany introduced in 1884, the quarter moon and crown. George III sterling silver oval cake basket with swing handle, London, 1800-1801, by famous silversmiths Robert & David Hennell. This basket is supported on an oval pedestal foot and has reeded decoration on the rims and handle, as well as a band of floral engraving. It is hallmarked with a full set of marks on the inside of the rim and with the lion passant and maker's stamps only on the handle. Excellent condition, no monogram, or repairs. This beautiful footed plate or "compotier" has an incredible design of a bird with flowers, a butterfly and a bee on the top side and another bird with a dragonfly & cherries on the underside. The blue color is quite vibrant, especially on the underside design. There is a very small chip along the rim & a larger chip on the bottom of the foot. Measures approximately 8-3/4 inches across & stands 3-1/2 inches high. Stamped on the bottom with an anchor & R, I cannot make out the rest of the mark....
