A long bamboo incense case with dark wood lid carved exquisitely with blossoming lotus and calligraphy. The deteriorating leaves rise from the bottom, blossoms spreading their petals to the sun. Above three lines of calligraphy descend to meet like the squirreling rays of late summer light. This rare teke turkomen pendant was originally worn as a necklace. This piece is studded with carnelians and decorated with gold wash aka "firegilded" detail. The pendant is 4 inches wide and 9.5 inches long.

Heavy pigment forms a spectral scene of a dark stone lantern viewed through the spring laden branches of maples, a dove taking flight in the fore. Anyone who has visited Japan will know the haunting sense these monoliths produce. The painting is performed in thick pigment on applied silver-leaf, signed Taisho (Okada Taisho, b. 1888). A chaozhu made of pierced and enameled silver or silver plated metal filigree beads. 90 small beads with crane design between three large "Buddha's head" beads. Three strings each with 10 dark beads ending in a teardrop bead. The tape which hung down the back with an oblong plaque between a double gourd and a teardrop bead. Dimension: 112 cm long. Weight: 174 gram. Condition: traces of usage: several beads with enamel loss, perhaps some beads missing.

A very unusual incense burner in the form of two servants holding up Hotei as he looks joyously toward the night sky. It is performed in crackled white glaze over pale clay with simple iron decoration. It comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box bearing the Teishitsu Gigei-in seal titled Ga-korai Hotei Koro indicating it was based on Korean decoration techniques. It is 18.5 x 10 x 14 cm (7-1/2 x 4 x 6 inches) and is in fine condition...

This unusual porcelain bowl has a defined rim, sides and foot detailed to appear like a woven basket and then painted in the Ao-Kutani palette with green, aubergine and yellow enamels. The inside enameled yellow and with centered green and aubergine enamel fahua decoration of a Shishi dog with ball among flames within a cloudband border. The foot enameled green over yellow and with a centered yellow reserve with incised artist's mark. The work is similar to that of the Eiraku potters...

A gorgeous Jubako stacking box of lacquered wood decorated with burgeoning grape vines in powdered gold maki-e dating from the 19th century enclosed in the original wooden storage box. Inside oxidized vermilion grants a sense of celebration, while the outside covered in polished black is the perfect back drop to the shimmering gold decoration. Assembled it is 24 x 26 x 31 cm (9-1/2 x 10-1/4 x 12 inches). Overall it is in very good condition, with some minor dings in the edges typical of use...

An exquisite sake cup from the Asakiri kiln of Akashi decorated with a verse and spray of bamboo enclosed in a period wooden box signed by Yamada Takeshi (descendant of Yamada Kikutaro, Edo period founder of the kiln).
