Designs in this genre capitalize on the stark contrast between highly polished, reflective silver and dark, heavily oxidized surfaces and the visual drama that it creates...

A young woman in rare western dress gazes across this early to mid 20th century Bijinga scroll signed Ikko (Furutani Fujio, b. 1891) enclosed in a period wooden box. Her bright western dress and short hair must have made quite an impression in conservative Japan. The silk painting is bordered in green brocade embellished with flowering vines, extended with beige and features bone rollers. The scroll measures 21-1/2 x 52-1/2 inches (54.5 x 133 cm), and is in fine condition...
This is an old Chinese carpentry tool. It was used the same as today's carpenter's "chalk line". The bowl would be filled with powdered charcoal and the string would be pulled through the bowl, and a straight line would be snapped. The string would be rewound by tuning the "crank handle".
Older carpenters frequently made their own tool and the carving on this one is very well done, a dragons head floating in a wave pattern. Note the hand made string...very rare...

One of Margot de Taxco's very best and most loved designs numbered 5184. Margot Van Voorhies opened her taller after her divorce from Don Antonio Castillo and ownership of the successful Los Castillo taller. It breaks down into 2 brooches, a bracelet and an extension to wear higher to the neck or longer with varied necklines...
The Los Castillo fern is an outstanding bracelet design with great dimension and a rolling flow to the leaf that others tried to copy but could not succeed. The piece is heavy at 98 grams. The height is 3in. on an angle and tapers to one inch in the back. The inside diameter is 2.25in. The clamper is properly hallmarked and in perfect condition. One picture shows the clamper with a large Los Castillo fern necklace already listed on my site. Truly a classic and collector quality.
