Published in Penny Morrill's latest book on Margot de Taxco's enamel work, the so called "Curling Lines" necklace is one of her most loved designs and definitely a piece that epitomizes her understanding of femininity and elegance. Deeply sculpted repousse links that bring to mind feathers dotted with perfect silver beads, lead to a gorgeous central piece where the silver twists and twirls like waves in the sea...

Among Gerardo Lopez's most collected clamper designs, I love to refer to this specific creation as his "flames" bracelet because of the way the repousse rises in vivacious twists and twirls. This is indeed an impressive piece - like most of Lopez's clampers are - but not overwhelmingly involved and a sheer pleasure to wear. Its patina is warm and its hinge is tight as if it has been treated very gently throughout its long life...

Shown in the Gobi Stromberg book "Silver Seduction : The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda", this book-piece design is a superb bracelet from Antonio Pineda. It's an extremely difficult design to produce, and it is most definitely a statement piece.

A signature design for Margot de Taxco, the koi silver and amethyst clamper bracelet is a must-have for the dedicated collector and the lover of things beautiful alike. Executed in dramatic repoussage that looks more like sculpting because of its depth and the thick silver sheet used to craft it, Margot's original is far above and beyond all contemporary emulations be they signed by a known maker or anonymous...

A smashing and unusual multi color sterling necklace designed by Eigel Jensen for Anton Michelsen, Denmark. The 3 dimensional links are strung on silver chain and all move. There is an interesting wash on the links alternating pink, yellow and dark gray. It is subtle and does not show well in the photos but it is a great look. There is a simple hook closure under one of the links so looks continuous when closed. Measuring 16 1/2" end to end and 5/8" wide, it is in fine original condition. It wei...

Based on Margot de Taxco's and the Los Castillo's "Koi Fish" parures, a repousse by-pass ring from the 1950s-60s made by one of Taxco's still unidentified maestros. I admire these miniature masterpieces - they mimic the clamper bracelets of their respective designs yet with the small size, pose a real challenge to the silversmith who has to reproduce amazing detail in such small proportions. The ring here is currently a comfortable size 7.75 but can be adjusted upwards. Its face is 1 5/16" tall...

A very interesting yet no less monumental bracelet by Enrique Ledesma in which the maestro combines modernist silver work with curved stone tubes left unpolished- a rather unusual choice for him. I am intrigued by the combination and think that the stones are actually malachite with veins of pyrite in them. Vividly colored, the bracelet has a stunning presence because of its magnificently architectural links and it feels divinely around the wrist. It has an inner circumference of 6 1/2" (claspe...

I have said many times in the past that I consider the Los Ballesteros workshop Taxco’s foremost creator of the so-called “mask” jewelry. And among their best are their hinged bangle bracelets, a fantastic example of which I am presenting here. The effigy is carved out of tiger’s eye, a stone which creates a magical sensation with its molten gold, glistening caramel and rich chocolate browns. Serene under its heavy, ornate headdress the “face” looks as if in deep sleep, its features ...

Superlative Prosa silver and amethyst bracelet, this is a Mexican treasure by a maker who was not as prolific yet seems to have had moments of absolute brilliance during their work years. The piece at hand speaks by itself - just take a look at the beautifully handcrafted, slightly slanted sterling links! This is thick silver with deep hand-chased details and amazing patina. And the amethyst cabochons, saturated and full of interesting inclusions, are to die for. The bracelet measures 7 1/4...

Beautifully rendered emulations of Margot de Taxco's koi fish earrings, this pair is signed by a maker who is known among collectors of vintage Mexican jewelry for his prowess in the art of repoussage and the high quality of his work. I think the point I am trying to make is amply illustrated by the bold repousse, the dark oxidation in the recesses of the design and the care that went into the finishing touches. As products of a minimally mechanized, hand-based process, the earrings differ sligh...

One of the few female designers and silversmiths who contributed to Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance that we know about, Carmen Beckmann is reported in the literature to have worked primarily in the 1950s and 1960s in San Miguel de Allende. I am not sure if this is indeed the case, at least in terms of the dates when she was active and I only say this because many of the pieces by her that I have seen bore hallmarks that would indicate a pre-1948 date of crafting. This might be one of the fie...

Stunning Antonio Pineda Mexican modernist silver and black onyx necklace, this too is wrought in the maestro's favorite fine, .970 alloy in a variation of his "crescents" design. There isn't much one can say about Antonio jewelry, at least not more than a few good photos can say, but let me express my admiration for the magical way he articulates his creations so as to sit perfectly where they should and at the same time showcase the design's sculpturality in the best possible light. I have to a...
