A great piece of jewelry representing the style of late 18th and early 19th centuries made in the 1960's. The carved painted reversed crystal is backed by mother of pearl. The frame that is 1 3/8" in diameter is made of 14Kt yellow gold that fully covers the back of the broach and is marked with a makers mark as well as with a stamp of 14Kt on the safety catch. The broach also has a bail in the back that makes it wearable as a pendant.

Based on Margot de Taxco's and the Los Castillo's "Koi Fish" parures, a repousse by-pass ring from the 1950s-60s made by one of Taxco's still unidentified maestros. I admire these miniature masterpieces - they mimic the clamper bracelets of their respective designs yet with the small size, pose a real challenge to the silversmith who has to reproduce amazing detail in such small proportions.
