Rare Japanese woodblock print kakemono (vertical diptych) by Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900) depicting Onoe Kikugoro V as Nikki Danjo, the archvillain of kabuki roles, transforming himself magically into a rat. The kabuki play “Meibuku Sendai Hagi” (“The Disputed Succession”), deals with an assassination attempt on Tsuruchiyo, a child who had inherited the position as head of a Semdai clan. Parra was known for quality and original designs. This heavy repousse bracelet has deep, sculpted swirls and nice amethysts with no cracks or chips. It is 1.25in. tall and weighs 64 grams. It is shown with a necklace already listed along side the bracelet. Very nice worn together. Properly hallmarked as shown with no dents. A very unusual Katana held in a saya (scabbard) made to look like a gnarled branch cut into a poor man’s cane. When pulled a spring-loaded mechanism releases two iron flanges creating a very effective tsuba hand guard. The blade is unsigned, measuring Nishaku nissun nibu {26-1/2 inches (67.3 cm)}. The remnants of a piece of paper remain glued to the saya with the name Masaaki Noma (?) written in cursive Roman letters, followed by UZUMASA, an area in Kyoto city...

This is EXCEPTIONAL. A Fred Davis design unsigned and with a brooch to match. Both are heavy in weight and tall in stature. Brooch is 2 1/3 in. square. 41 grams heavy. A very unusual art nouveau style Kutani vase decorated with a jagged forest of pink trees on soft green carpet, butterflies circling the shoulder which breaks into a darkened cloud of moriage beads decorated with spiraling karakusa designs in slightly raised gold. Superb workmanship, it is simply signed Kutani-zo (made in Kutani). The vase is 10 inches (25.5 cm) tall and in excellent condition and dates from the first quarter of the 20th century.

Rare Song - Yuan dynasty longquan celadon small three legs censer, rounded side with three legs and unglazed base, drum shape censer with horizontal stripe and three legged, covered with green glaze.
Censer is in good condition no chip, no crack, no restoration, there is crackled at the glaze.

A large screen depicting a samurai replete with the Jakumei crest of the Takeda Clan rearing his horse in a shout of battle, wand extended at arms length giving the order to charge. Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992) depicting a samurai with two swords titled “Akazaya” (Red Sheath). Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 11.75". This kokeshi is signed "Matsuzuru-saku" (made by Matsuzuru), but little else is known about is origin. The style could be from either Miyagi or Yamagata Prefectures (my guess is Yamagata.) It was most likely made during the 1980's. A sprawl of chrysanthemum are delicately painted growing beneath the elegant curves of a Kanshi poem on this fine silk scroll by Kamisaka Sekka enclosed in the original signed wooden box. A set of 12 uniquely crafted masks of devils dating from the Meiji period enclosed in a period custom made kiri-wood box titled Kodai-men Hina-gata Juni-ko (12 miniature ancient masks). Vintage handmade sterling silver spoon or ladle designed and marked (1950's)by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling(1900-67). Measures 4 3/8"L X 1 1/2"W. 34grams, 1.2oz. Beautifully photographed on p.97 of SPRATLING SILVER by Cederwall/Riney. Author Phyllis Goddard writes on her site spratlingsilver.com "this spoon represents a combination of Spratling's favorite design motifs...wrapped silver wire, intertwined and incised loops and silver ball." Whimsical and rare sterling silver and turquoise earrings designed and signed in Taxco, Mexico circa 1940 by artist Hubert Harmon. Each hand crafted repousse earring measures 1 3/8" long. Old Japanese theater mask of "tengu" in a fierce grimace sporting a prominent proboscis. The "tengu" were mythical creatures, half-bird and half-man, who were tricksters living in pine trees in the forests. An incredible ivory netsuke of a Hannya devil mask with inlayed eyes. The detail in the Faust like features is absolutely superb. In this case I will let the photographs speak for us. Although not contemporary, this Netsuke dates from the mid 20th century. Due to certain features, we believe it was made in China prior to or during World War II, during Japans occupation (1932-1945). A pair of rare Koto-yaki sake flasks decorated with florals and dating from the 19th century. Written on the side is the kiln name Koto (East Lake). Each piece is roughly 6 inches (15 cm) tall and in fine condition but for a chip on the inside of the foot ring of one.
Koto ware is one of those rare and highly prized ceramics of low production, once the official kiln of the Ii clan in Hikone on the Eastern Shores of Lake Biwa, its production rand from the early to late 19th century. Und...
