Dashing early modernist Mexican silver and amethyst earrings with the signature of the Los Ballesteros workshop, this set is a variation on the "clamshell" type of jewelry that was so popular with modernist Taxco maestros in the mid- to later 1940s...
An early Taxco maestro, Manuel Altamirano worked for both Aguilar and Valentin Vidaurreta. With the former, he shares what has come to be known as the "armadillo" parure, out of which you can see here the quite impressive belt buckle. Evocative of the “armor plates” covering the body of the namesake creatures, the buckle's links are graduated in size and adorned with short, flat-topped round appliques...
This art Deco bracelet consists of alternating gold and amethyst links. The nine high quality natural rectangular emerald-cut amethysts are prong set in four prong settings and each measure 9 X 7 millimeters. The length of the bracelet is 7 ½”.

Very substantial, the silver is heavy and the stones are large and raised high above the bezels.
The clasp is a simple folding snap clasp that holds firmly.
The design is very similar to the early works of both Spratling and Aguilar, and could have been crated by them or by a worker in their studios...

I am offering a rare amethyst Antonio Pineda bracelet. It is trapezoidal in shape with straight barrels and no chips or cracks to the stones. The stones range from dark purple to some stones with lighter swirls. It is properly hallmarked as shown and displays a light patina. I have tried to show the bracelet in different light for the best viewing of all links. Pineda used 970 silver content for his work giving it a whiter look as it has a low alloy content...
I would never have thought that the necklace presented here was not made in the 1930s or 1940s - design, construction, even the way it is hallmarked point in that direction. Yet it is later as indicated by the maker's registration code - I think it must have been made around 1980. Heavy clusters of bead and tube dangles adorn the central part of the necklace creating an impressive sense of abundance and luxury...

A very rare handmade sterling and center bezel set oval malachite bracelet by the American Arts & Crafts workshop Chicago Art Silver Shop. In 1912, after moving from their native Hungary, Edmund Boker and Ernest Gould formed the Chicago Art Silver Shop. Both had worked as silversmiths in a Budapest factory making objects for European royal families. The bracelet is a bangle that is 3/4" wide in the front, narrowing to 3/8" in the back and is 8" around in the inside...

One of the few female designers and silversmiths who contributed to Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance that we know about, Carmen Beckmann is reported in the literature to have worked primarily in the 1950s and 1960s in San Miguel de Allende. I am not sure if this is indeed the case, at least in terms of the dates when she was active and I only say this because many of the pieces by her that I have seen bore hallmarks that would indicate a pre-1948 date of crafting...
A classic Margot de Taxco necklace, here presented in a combination of silver and copper that is truly stunning and doesn't surface that often. I have seen this specific design in all silver, with foiled blue and green glass and, if I am not mistaken, with amethyst cabs as well - I love them all but there is something about the warm glow of patinated copper as it reflects on old silver that really speaks to my heart...
