A meiping shaped vase, well painted in under glaze blue and red. The base carries the six character mark of the Guangxu emperor (1875 - 1908)and was possibly made during his reign. Condition - very good - no damages and no restoration...

A rarely encountered occupation era original Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled "Tanigumi Temple, Mino" by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) dated in the lower left margin Showa 22 (1947). The artist's black ink signature and red seal are at the lower left corner of the image. The 6mm circular seal of the publisher Watanabe (used 1946-1957) is at the lower right corner. Flames of red flash form the bird resurrected on the side of this large Cloisonne vase by the Ando company of Nagoya; Japan’s premier cloisonne studio. The color is hard to describe, seeming to be lit from within. A combination of wire and wireless design using gold wire with silver rim. Ando mark on base, the vase measures 37 cm (14-1/2 inches) tall, 32 cm (12-1/2 inches) diameter and is in excellent condition. It comes enclosed in a fine, custom made kiri-wood box.

At first glance this appears to simply be a large image of a burning tree, however, look again and find the tree like figure is in the from of two entwined lovers, flames leaping from their impassioned bodies. This was likely made as an exhibition work, as it certainly would be difficult to fit into even a large Japanese home. The piece is signed Yoneda Mio, (Yoneda Mionosuke), and likely dates from the 1930s...

Chinese fan painting on paper by Zhu Meicun (born 1911) depicting a solitary figure at the lower right seated among rockery and pines. The left side of the fan bears the artist's signature and red seal. The painting is dated above the signature in Chinese cycle years summer of "ping xu" (1946). The fan painting has been silk mounted. The painting itself measures about 9 1/4"V x 20"H (mounting size: 16 3/8"V x 22 7/8"H)...

This is a great archetype of ghurra, showing an interlace of ropes which local name is netti, so in some areas "Netti" becomes the generic name for Ghurras. A halo surrounds the emaciated figure of a Rakan (Arhat or Arahat) seated atop a stone draped in billowing robes clutching a nyoi scepter in his bony left fist. A reddish-brown stained hardwood carving of the star god Shouxing holding his staff and accompanied by a boy holding a bat. This item was possibly made in China during the Republic period - circa 1920-1949. A wonderful ethnographic folk art object, this style of farm animal bell has been used in Thailand for centuries. Hand carved from wood by the herder and tied around the animals neck this traditional bell is hinged (or pegged) in 2 places to allow for a gentle knocking sound. This one was used for a goat and has remnants of the original hand made rope.

An incredible ivory netsuke of a Hannya devil mask with inlayed eyes. The detail in the Faust like features is absolutely superb. In this case I will let the photographs speak for us. Although not contemporary, this Netsuke dates from the mid 20th century. Due to certain features, we believe it was made in China prior to or during World War II, during Japans occupation (1932-1945). The, inlay in the eyes is consistent with this interpretation and the ivory appears to be of Indian origin...
