An aquatint in colors by the famous Chinese artist Zao Wou-ki (Zao Wuji). He was born in Beijing 1921 and worked in Paris. Signed, dated '59 and numbered 32/95 in pencil. Condition: trimmed (die stamp of l'Oeuvre gravée only last 3 letters), slightly soiled and creased, reverse with annotations in pencil and traces of former mounting, one pinhole in image. A nice find Longquan celadon large dish from Borneo, decorated with incised lotus blossom in the center and cavetto with fluted sides. Exterior is plain and covered overall with nice olive green glaze. Yuan dynasty 13th-14th century. Condition with a hairline to base and minor three tiny flake chips to rim, free from any restoration. Diameter: 36cm.
A good small vase in pear-shaped form, decorated incised to the body with floral sprays motif. Southern Song dynasty Jindezhen ware. Condition is good excepted one crack to the rim but free from restoration. High: 11 cm.

Embroidered in multicolored silks on blue figured silk with two cranes flying with a stalk of sacred fungus amidst clouds, above a taihu rock and waves. Bordered with gold wrapped thread. Of large size, this Huanghuali root or burl Scholars object features an interior bowl shaped area, which is most likely a brush washer. It measures 14" in length, 8 3/4" wide, and is 5" high, and has a darkened and soft patina. The grain of the wood is visible in many areas, with both pronounced striations and larger areas of dark coloration. The wood grain is very dense, heavy, and it has the slightly sweet odor found in Huanghuali wood...

An extremely rare spouted ewer, the flat base rising to rounded sides, decorated each with incised chrysanthemum blossom and prunus blossom. This kind of vessels shape first seen on Yuan dynasty with variously type from celadon, qingpai and b/w wares, but it's very rare found and qualified as a museum pieces, also nothing found again to the later period such like Ming and Ching. This antique shield is an artifact from the Dutch War with the Atjeh (now Aceh). In short, the Dutch colonial government considered Indonesia "theirs". The indigenous people, the Atjeh, on the Northern part of Sumatra, disagreed. The war began in 1883 and extended into 1904 when "peace" was declared.
This large war shield, made and carried by an Atjeh warrior, has a double layer of woven Rattan with circles of 6 pointed metal stars and brass pins...

This charming antique purse from Tibet was hand-made to be worn hanging from a waist belt. Lacking ornamentation, is was probably a daily use item to hold coins. A simple endless knot toggle is used for closure. The purse is 3.5 inches at the widest point.
Many of my Tibetan items are "categorized" as Chinese. Most westerners think of Tibetan's as being within the boundary of the current borders of the country known as Tibet...
