An ornately worked, chased and engraved jug with dancing Burmese figures in repoussé. The handle in the form of an ogre. The spout might be a later addition, it is only silver plated. Thai 14th - 15th Century Underglazed Sukhothai Bowl

This stoneware bowl was made at the Sukhothai kilns during the 14th - 15th century. The striking floral / geometric pattern is in underglaze iron-brown on top of a white slip. The honey-coloured clear glaze is finely-crackled. The glaze is at its thickest to the upper surface. On the underside the glaze is thinner and has degraded in places leaving a matt surface. To the centre are five "spur marks". The base remains unglazed...

A small statue of a dancer in traditional costume, finely cast and cold-worked in bronze and fixed on the original wooden stand. Such small bronze figurines were souvenirs and gifts from British Burma of the 1920s/30s. Condition: fine, only wood stand with some chips and traces of usage. Dimension: total height: c. 16 cm, base: 12.3 cm x 8.8 cm, figure: 12.5 cm high x 9.5 cm wide, weight: 1200 g.

A lacquered wood manuscript cover with the rectangular panel carved with scrolling foliate tendrils with a carved vase in the center. Age: 18th Century. Size: L. 37cm. H.14cm. Condition: Normal ageing with and old chip on the left edge and age crack on the right side.

One similar piece appear on Christies 1984 auction cataloque in London, with high 11.5cm and wide 15.7cm. They also note the other only one recorded example in that times of this Double-Headed type appears to be illustrated by William Willets, 'Ceramic Art of Southeast Asia, 1971, no.85. which is subsequently illustrated, Strait Times Annual, 1981, pp, 57-58, and Southeast Asian Ceramic Society, Vietnamese Ceramics, 1982, no.103.

Gilded bronze Buddha with great age wear and patina. H. 32 cm. Condition: on the right corner there is a loop where a small bronze disciple was placed. The loop on the left side is missing; this must have happened a long time ago as the remains are hardly visible. There is an old collection label on the back.

A very rare gilt figure of Buddha with hands in the earth-touching gesture. The facial features are characteristic of Burmese Buddhas of the time with very large ears and nose.

Thai Sawankhalok 13th/15th Century Stoneware Bottle (Ex. Grahame Clarke Collection)

This finely-shaped stoneware bottle, with its pear-shaped body and wide flaring mouth, was made during the 13th - 15th Century at one of the Sawankhalok kilns. It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a very unusual glaze of a dark greenish-blue colour with a most attractive crackled effect. There are incised bands around the neck. The glaze has run and sagged toward the unglazed lower body...

A very rare crystal tiger from Burma/Thailand. Crystal was thought to have magical powers and the tiger represents strength. It is unknown how they drilled the holes to make it wearable.As you can see they were drilled at both ends, probably before the crystal was carved. Age: over two thousand years old. Size: L. 3cm. A well crafted Montagnard hardwood crossbow with subtle attention to detailing and with oxbone release mechanism. The wood (a resource of interest to Chinese occupiers since the Ming dynasty) appears to be a good quality tropical hardwood (broadly referred to as rosewood - we cannot be certain of the variety.) A set of Mandarin squares, comprising a front and a back, dating around 1900. Insignia for a court official's wife, with appliqued silver pheasant bird, denoting the fifth rank. Gold and silver metallic threads couched on violetta silk, lined with blue silk. Condition: traces of age, little faded, back badge with short tear (please see photo # 10), lining little stained. Dimension: 25.5 cm x 28.2 cm.

A good and well form Annamese jar, decorated to the body with hanging lotus petals scrolls and to the shoulder with petals form all in very fine cobalt blue tone. Annamese ware 15th century, condition is perfect except tiny flake glaze to rim, no crack and free from restoration. High: 6cm.
