Vajradhara or Dorje Chang in Tibetan is the ultimate primordial Buddha or Adi Buddha according to the Gelug and Kagyu schools of Tibetan Buddhism. This fine example is from Tibet or possibly from Nepal. It is well proportioned and has very nice facial features. Please note the fine engraving on the back of the figure. A wide low chawan tea bowl inscribed with a poem by Otagaki Rengetsu reading “Yo no naka ha tata utatane no shibaraku wo samenu yume ji ni matofu wari nasa. In the world only for the span of a nap yet wandering an inescapable path of dreams…such a mystery. (Translation from Rengetsu.org). It is 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) diameter, 1-1/2 inches (4 cm) tall and in fine condition.

A beautifully preserved 16th to 17th century Annan Bronze basin inscribed with the animals of the zodiac which had been used as a prayer bell at a Japanese Buddhist temple. It makes a beautiful ring when struck. It is roughly 12 inches (30 cm) diameter, 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) tall. An exceedingly rare find...

Virabhadra, incarnation of Shiva, is often depicted in solid bronze plaques. This one however is remarkably fine, with its delicate openwork. It dates from the 16th century, possibly earlier and was made in West India. It has a warm brown patina and appropriate age wear. There is a very old repair just above the small figure on the left. Height 26 cm (the sculpture), 32 cm including the stand.

A large sweets dish decorated with blossoms by Eiraku Zengoro XII (Wazen) enclosed in a custom made wooden box. The bold pattern is fitting this bold artist. It is 9 inches (23 cm) diameter, 4-1/2 inches (11 cm) tall and in fine condition.

The seven gods of fortune are depicted in rich gold, vibrant colors and textures on this exceptional set of Kutani Sake Cups from the Kaburagi Studio enclosed in the original compartmentalized wooden box. Each cup is unique, measuring roughly 5.5 cm (2 inches) diameter, 3 cm (1 inch) tall and all are in excellent condition. The Kaburagi studio produced some of the finest wares in Kutani. Founded in 1822, it survives to this day under the same family, now in the 8th generation...

Mother of pearl is inset into the silver powder dusted lattice set between red lacquered pillars forming this art-deco era lacquer vase enclosed in the original signed wooden box by Iwamura Sadao (1912-1944). A brass insert which rests perfectly between the four corners allows for flowers. The strong geometric patterning embodies the Art Deco style so popular in Japan in the 1930s. It is 6-1/4 inches (16cm) square, 15-1/2 inches (39.5 cm) tall and in overall fine condition...

The repousse brass on wood mortar with Kala heads. The iron pestle mounted with a hardwood kneeling figure. Ca. Late 19th to early 20th century. The mortar is 15 cm long, the pestle 29 cm.

A rare octagonal porcelain dish decorated in underglaze blue with a flowering bush by a rock, along the border stylized Chinese characters. The rim glazed brown, the base with three spur marks and a "fuku" mark within a double square. Dating to the early Edo period. Condition: well with little scratches, rim with 3 tiny frits and two chips, and one chip under the glaze (photo 8). Dimension: diameter: 20 cm, 3.2 cm high.

The largest piece I have ever seen by Miyanaga Tozan I, a fine baluster form celadon on a superb rosewood stand. It is 21-1/2 inches (55 cm) tall, 15-1/2 inches (40 cm) diameter and in excellent condition. There is a custom made copper insert for use with flower arranging. Due to size the cost of shipping will be accrued separately. Miyanaga Tozan I (1868-1941) is one of the most important names in Kyoto ceramics...

Oversized limited-edition Japanese "sosaku hanga" woodblock print by Tamami Shima (1937-1999) titled "April Forest." The bottom margin is pencil-signed, titled in kanji, dated 1962, and numbered 67/100. Paper: 22"V x 15 7/8"H (image: 19 7/8"V x 13 3/4"H). Very good overall condition. A wily fox stands, head cocked to one side wrapped in the robes of a nun, something to be wary of this ceramic Okimono by Takahashi Dohachi enclosed in the original wooden box titled outside Dohachi Zo Hakuzoso, and signed within Kachutei Dohachi Zo followed by the artists stamp. It is 8 inches (21 cm) tall and in fine condition...

Six different antique ceremonial spoons used during Hindu worship for offering holy water to deities, from Maharashtra. Made of brass or bronze, the largest spoon in "ganga-jumna" technique (brass and copper). Three with cobra, two with lotus bud and one with dancing Krishna final. One with short inscription. From a Swiss lady's private collection. Condition: traces of usage. Dimension: 13.6 cm to 16.2 cm long.

A pottery whistle in the form of an unusual face with its lips puckered as if whistling. The top of the whistle has green and brown glazes (sansai glaze) - the bottom is unglazed. The glaze has a very fine crackle. Under magnification, tiny pits can be seen on the fine crackle, which is consistent with the appearance of glazes for pieces of this period.
