A spectacular black lacquered wooden sign carved with bold characters over a gold gilded carp swimming through a torrent of waves dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. It is in fine condition, with only minor marks typical of age. It measures 4 feet (121 cm) long, 14 inches (35 cm) wide and is 1-1/2 inches (3.5 cm) thick at the frame edge.

Gnarled plums cover the unusual rich blue ground of this antique tsubo vase from the Arita kilns dating from the early 20th century. It is 14-1/2 inches (37 cm) tall and in fine condition, signed on the base. The decoration is performed entirely in overglaze enamels with a gold rim,and is both vivid and fresh. One of the more unusual pieces I have seen from this region. It is signed on the base in Red Arita sei Miyuki Gama

A genuine reishi cluster of mushrooms dried and preserved in perfect condition. This is an exquisite form, the dark trunks meandering up to wide blossoming heads. It is 13 inches (33 cm) long.

Large Chinese late Qing Guangxu period cylindrical form censer decorated in underglaze blue against a white porcelain ground with a faint blue-green tint with a pair of four-clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl above waves. The interior is glazed while the base is unglazed. 7 1/2" high x 8" diameter. Late 19th to early 20th century. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a small amount of staining to the interior.

A pair of unique three part tokkuri by Taniguchi Chojiro consisting of a top, which turned upside down forms the cup, a central ring on which the cup rests, and the bottle, which, when assembled, make the form of a temple bell. These are made after the infamous bell of Hokoji Temple which provided (a rather lame) excuse for Tokugawa Ieyasu to crush the Toyotomi family and claim the country for his own, therefore beginning the Tokugawa Dynasty which ruled Japan for over 250 years...

Comprising a censer, 2 vases and 4 cabdlesticks. The censer and the two candlesticks in the center belong together, the other items were matched. H. Between 18 and 21 cm. Two Tibetan bone carvings of dancing Dakinis from a ceremonial bone apron. One Dakini carries a chopper, kapala (skull cup) and a skull scepter; the other holds a kapala in her left hand. Both have large scrolling swirls carved above and below them. The backs have numerous holes for stringing. The bone is probably from a Yak. Period: 18th/19th Century. Size: 16cm & 17cm. W. Both 4cm. Japanese Meiji period teardrop form cabinet vase covered in a rich mottled blue glaze over a brown base. The vase bears the impressed mark of Okumura Shozan (1841-1905) on the glazed base. Vajradhara or Dorje Chang in Tibetan is the ultimate primordial Buddha or Adi Buddha according to the Gelug and Kagyu schools of Tibetan Buddhism. This fine example is from Tibet or possibly from Nepal. It is well proportioned and has very nice facial features. Please note the fine engraving on the back of the figure. A beautifully preserved 16th to 17th century Annan Bronze basin inscribed with the animals of the zodiac which had been used as a prayer bell at a Japanese Buddhist temple. Virabhadra, incarnation of Shiva, is often depicted in solid bronze plaques. This one however is remarkably fine, with its delicate openwork. It dates from the 16th century, possibly earlier and was made in West India. It has a warm brown patina and appropriate age wear. There is a very old repair just above the small figure on the left. Height 26 cm (the sculpture), 32 cm including the stand.

Mother of pearl is inset into the silver powder dusted lattice set between red lacquered pillars forming this art-deco era lacquer vase enclosed in the original signed wooden box by Iwamura Sadao (1912-1944).
