An olive-shape Jizhou vase was applied with beautiful tortoiseshell glaze all over the surface.
By characteristic flat bottom, the buff-tinted body clay was revealed in the soft-feel quality.
They were the characteristics for Jizhou wares.
Upon the glaze being well preserved in a very good condition, the immensely spread crackles were yielded with pinpoint holes which caused from incursions.
It is rare to find a Jizhou bottle in such good condition...

Maki-e Cranes soar and a gilded tortoise takes refuge on a rock on this magnificent sake set made of wood covered in lacquer with elaborate maki-e and applied gold designs. About the edge of the stand is a solid silver rim. The scenes are depicted with powdered gold and applied gold kirigane on red and black grounds. This is of the highest quality. Japanese ukiyo-e style ink and color on silk scrolled painting of a standing bijin (beauty) by Ohara Donshu (1792-1857), aka Ohara Tonshu and Ohara Kon. Signed in black ink “Donshu” and with two red artist’s seals “Donshu” and “Hara kon no in.” Ohara Donshu was a follower of Shijo-style painter Shibata Gito, who was in turn a follower of Matsumura Goshun. Although best known for his Maruyama-Shijo style landscape paintings, Donshu also produced fine figure paintings...

Blue & White dish, decorated with two ladies walking at the garden, on the cavetto with four windows of fruit among diaper pattern. Six characters mark on the base "Da Ming Cheng Hua Nien Zhe", early Ching dynasty Kangxi period. Condition: rim area restored. Diameter: 21.4 cm.

A Song longquan celadon large bowl, rounded side with deep center and glazed base, bowl decorated with raising lotus petal motif at exterior, covered with bluish green glaze. Condition : a hairline 3 cm. Size: 20.5 cm diameter 8 cm height.

A rare Straits Chinese fan case applied with tiny faceted rocaille glass beads on a green respectively yellow velvet ground, depicting auspicious symbols. Bordered with a woven band, with cotton ribbon and lining. Condition: very good, few glass beads are lost. Dimension: case: 32.2 cm long x 7.8 cm wide.

 

Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 4.25". This is an example of the "Yajiro-kei" tradition of Miyagi Prefecture. The artisan is Niiyama Manabu, who was born on October 13th, 1930 (Showa 5). It is not dated, but was most likely made within the past 20 years. A fine, early Joseon dynasty, deep Punchong bowl with gracefully everted rim and on tall ring foot. White slip inlaid decoration in the cavetto of chrysanthemum blossoms, surrounded by a lotus-petal band, surrounded in turn by rope-curtain decoration continuing to multiple rings inside the rim. The outside brush-wiped with white slip and an olive colored glaze over the slip and body - pooling in places. The unglazed foot fired to a grey-brown color...

Spiraling lines and wispy trees rise up to the heavens in this convoluted landscape by Fujimoto Tesseki dated 1855. If one looks carefully, it is fun to see the artists playful choices of colors, not apparent at first, like the blue trunk on the central tree at the base of the painting...

A set of Mandarin squares, comprising a front and a back, dating around 1900. Insignia for a court official's wife, with appliqued silver pheasant bird, denoting the fifth rank. Gold and silver metallic threads couched on violetta silk, lined with blue silk. Condition: traces of age, little faded, back badge with short tear (please see photo # 10), lining little stained. Dimension: 25.5 cm x 28.2 cm.

Small Chinese Ming Dynasty Monochrome Moulded Porcelain Dish

This small and unusual porcelain dish was made during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). It has a foliated rim and moulded "ribs" to its underside. It is coated in a pale glaze that has just a hint of green to it. The thickness of the glaze varies in places, at its thickest it is slightly crackled, at its thinnest it has flaked from the surface a little. The centre of the dish has four firing marks and a lightly incised ring...

Longquan bowl decorated with incised lotus petals rising from foot to the exterior and flower motif in the center. Covered with greyish green glaze. Southern Song 12th-13th century. Condition : frittings on the footrim, no chips, cracks or hairlines and free from restoration. Good sound when tapping by finger tips. Diameter: 13.5cm

Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled “Tasogare” (aka Dusk or Twilight) by Yamakawa Shuho (1898-1944) depicting a beauty in dressed summer kimono holding an uchiwa (non-folding fan) from the series “Four Images of Women” published by Bijutsusha in April 1928.
