Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992) depicting a samurai with two swords titled “Akazaya” (Red Sheath). The print is pencil-signed “Yoshitoshi Mori,” numbered 31/70, and dated ’81 in the lower margin. The artist’s red seal is above the signature. The visible paper size is 23”V x 16 3/4”H (frame: 31”H x 24”V). Appears to be in very good overall condition. The print is framed in the original Kanda Gallery frame...

Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 12". This is an example of the "Yajiro-kei" tradition of Miyagi Prefecture. The artisan is Ishikawa Tokujirou, and is signed that he made it at the age of 69 years old. I have been unable to find his birth record, but believe this kokeshi to have been made during the 1970's or 1980's. Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 11.75". This kokeshi is signed "Matsuzuru-saku" (made by Matsuzuru), but little else is known about is origin. The style could be from either Miyagi or Yamagata Prefectures (my guess is Yamagata.) It was most likely made during the 1980's. This particular shape was called an "ezuko" (Basket child) in the local Miyagi vernacular. The artisan was Oyama Kesaki, who was born on March 25th, 1940 (Showa 15.) Oversized abstract mixed media print on heavy embossed paper titled "Yin-Yang" by Taiwanese artist Liao Shiou-ping (born 1936) dating circa 1980. Pencil-signed, numbered 7/50, and pencil-titled in Chinese and English in the lower margin. Very good overall condition with minor soiling and paper discoloration to the front, sight creasing and toning of the edges, and toning to the back. Paper size: 29 7/8" x 22"...

An anonymous basket of both red and white soot-stained bamboo (susu-dake) with a root-wood handle, the various textures and colors gleaming with sheer elegance. It is 18 inches (45 cm) tall and in excellent condition, containing a black lacquered bamboo otoshi container lined with copper.

A fabulous Koro covered in damascened gold by Ibuse Keisuke enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Nunome Zogan Jungin Koro (Damascene Pure Silver Incense Burner). It is 11 cm (4-1/2 inches) tall, 9.5 cm (3-3/4 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.
Ibuse Keisuke was born in Tokyo in 1930, and began his studies of metal arts in 1950 under Unno Takeo...

"Chinese beauty is", according to my Chinese friend, "she should walk like a weeping willow, her eyebrows should be fashionably shaped like its leaves and her long fingers must not show any trace of hard work" – I kind of love this part... Here she is sitting in a chair waiting to be carried by her new husband.

This is a very famous Chinese scene, new bride going home to visit her mother for the first time...

Pretty and old mushroom mask, with a shiny black patina. These mask are made from tree parasit mushroom with a minimal carving work . The aime of the carvers is to take advantage of the native form of the mushroom These masks are usually hung inside homes to function as protective effigies. They are more occasionally used as face masks at certain parties, H 20 cm, width 300 cm weight 650 grams.

A kyusu teapot with attrative, unctuous rust-orange highlighted opaque off-white Shino glaze. Two character artist's signature incised to the pottery body within a reserve in the glaze. Good condition save a miniscule flea bite to the flaze on the tip of the spout. Pot diameter about 5 1/4 inches. Cover diameter about 3 1/2 inches. Length including handle about 7 3/4 inches. Height to cover handle about 4 inches. 20th century.

SOTOMIYA

Miniature version of Japanese outdoor wooden shrine called 'sotomiya' (as the opposite type of interior household shrine called 'kamidana'), Showa period, 20th century, approx. H 26.2 x W 18.5 x D 18.8 cm (10.31 x 7.28 x 7.40in). Some damage as is as seen. No object enshrined (since this little snake is not attached), so that please arrange something worshiped into by yourself.
