Fine & Rare Large Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Box (206 BC - AD 220)

This rare pottery box was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is a two-part box made from a grey pottery. The cover has been elaborately decorated by "cold-painting" a base coat of creamy-white pigment on top of which have been various coloured pigments, mainly red, white and black, but there are also traces of green and purple pigments...

A Chinese B&W storage jar decorated with ladies playing a game in a garden, surrounded by children. Marked with an Artemisia leaf. Kangxi period (1662-1722). In the 19th century the silver mounts were added by an unknown Dutch silver smith. Hallmarked with the 'old sword'. This item is in a very good condition., with only a minor glaze chip to the mouth rim. H. 12 cm.

A loosely brushed image of a Kingfisher perched on dilapidated lotus stalk decorates the crackled gohon pale glaze of this gourd shaped Mizusashi fresh water jar by Takahashi (Ninnami) Dohachi. It features a black lacquered wooden lid. There are cracks in teh lacquer of the looping handle. The signature is consistent with works by Ninnami Dohachi (Dohachi II) from the mid 19th century...

A Chinese blanc de chine barrel shaped jar and cover the flattened circular lid with twin peach finial, the curving sides of the jar decorated with bands of raised dot designs at the rim and base, the sides otherwise decorated with hawthorn blossom sprays and twin lion head bosses.

Size: 15-1/2 cm high by 13-1/2 cm diameter

Of high content silver (.950 or higher), this warmer or burner is Korean, early 20th century, possibly 19th. Measures 5 3/4" x 6 1/4". Three pieces, burner, lid, and tray. Signed in rectangular cartouche on base, has marks for silver. Four bat shaped handles, two on lid, two on base. Lid and base are engraved with prunus blossoms, and the background around the engraving is slightly textured to create a more satiny surface...

Kraak period, Wanli reign (1563 - 1620) large plate or low bowl done in underglaze blue on white ground. The center design shows a dragon.

Very good condition, no breaks or chips

A lovely hollowed out root forming a basket; an anonymous 20th century work of Mingei art. It is roughly 18 x 13 x 10 inches (45 x 33 x 25 cm) and in fine condition.

Gentlemen glide through the open “ma” staring up at the moon on this serene work signed Joun (One of many names used by the priest Hashimoto Dokuzan). Ink on paper in superb Shunpodo Silk mounting (THE preeminent scroll hangers in Kyoto) enclosed in a signed double wood box (niju-bako) dated 1935 with solid ivory rollers (They will be changed for export). The scroll is 28-1/2 x 53 inches (72 x 134 cm) in excellent condition but for scattered foxing...

A small statue of a dancer in traditional costume, finely cast and cold-worked in bronze and fixed on the original wooden stand. Such small bronze figurines were souvenirs and gifts from British Burma of the 1920s/30s. Condition: fine, only wood stand with some chips and traces of usage. Dimension: total height: c. 16 cm, base: 12.3 cm x 8.8 cm, figure: 12.5 cm high x 9.5 cm wide, weight: 1200 g.

Large Thai bronze Buddha head with serene face and downcast almond eyes, curled headdress, flaming usnisa, and elongated ears. The casting is thin, the patina is very nice, and there is typical corrosion and wear evident. Traces of gilt are visible in the usnisa and hair (see close up images). Produced in the 18th/19th century in the Sukhothai period style. 15" high. Weighs about 9 lbs. There is no stand. This bronze is from the Albert Ninde estate in Tucson...

Japanese limited edition woodblock print by French artist Paul Jacoulet (1902-1960) titled "Birds of Paradise. Menado, Celebes" (Les Paradisiers Menado, Celebes) published December 25, 1937. This image is illustrated on page 53 (plate 46) of “The Prints of Paul Jacoulet” by Richard Miles, 1982. It is described on pages 98-99. The print is pencil-signed and bears the red tea jar seal at the lower right edge of the image...

Occupation era original Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled "Heirin Temple, Nobidome" by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) dated in the lower left margin Showa 27 (1952). The artist's black ink signature and red seal are at the lower left corner of the image. The 6mm circular seal of the publisher Watanabe (used 1946-1957) is at the lower left margin corner beneath the date. Paper size: nearly 15 3/4" x 10 1/4" (image size: 14 3/8" x 9 1/2"). Very good overall condition with very good color...

Large Chinese Qing dynasty cylindrical form Nonya ware tingkat food container consisting of four stacking sections in a variety of pastel polychrome enamel background hues topped with a slightly domed cover sporting a Peking glass finial from a Mandarin hat. Each tier is decorated with two opposing panels of flowers on a white ground set against a dense background of bats, flowers, and scrolling foliage. The sides have twisted metal handles held by moulded loops...

Large Chinese Qing dynasty celadon charger decorated in the interior with a carved scrolling peony motif. Late 19th century to circa 1900. 15 1/2” diameter x 2 5/8” high. Heavily potted and in very good overall condition. There are some original crazing and production flaws to the interior. From a North Scottsdale, Arizona collection. A beautiful religious painting in ink and colors on paper. Depiction of the holy image of Manjusri, the painting was preserved very well with only some old stains left on the outer portion of the painting.
It measures 230cm long X 100cm wide for the work including mounting. Otherwise the painting measures 166cm X 85cm.

Huge tanned washi Japanese paper coated in kakishibu persimmon tannin repaired with paper patchwork like an unintentional collage work, used to be laid under tatami mat or pasted on the wall of kura warehouse for humidity control and sunburn prevention. Very dramatic deeply concave oval shaped African shield from Ethiopia. The animal hide is scraped free of hair and then placed over a shaped board with protrusions which will allow for greater protection in warding off blows. The edge is tightly rolled and there are added tool marks for heightened decoration. The handle is tied and knotted into place at a slight angle to allow for a more comfortable hold...

A very lovely small celadon washer, decorated with incised panels surrounded to the top and covered overall with nice pale powder green, base unglazed. Found at South Sulawesi area. Condition is very good, no any chip, no crack and free from restoration. Possibly Yongle-Xuande period or earlier. Diameter: 5,5 cm.
